In May 2008 the Edmonton Law Libraries Association has a "Wikis for Law Libraries" session. As part of the session, I set up a practice wiki for ELLA members to use as a tool for exploring this collaborative media. The session slides are posted on the test wiki as well as here on the ELLA website.

Setting up a test wiki is a pretty simple solution to get a community exploring collaboration options.

A little while back I was seriously craving some color. I wanted to knit some socks that made me feel summery, in a light merino that wouldn't make my fingers sweat well I worked on them. A trip to Stitch DC lead me to Farmhouse Yarns Fannie's Fingering Weight in a super bright variegated reminiscent of tie-dye, which was just what I needed.

These sock are my first finished project in a little while. The problem with WIP ADD is that lots get worked on and little gets done. But here they are.

They worked up very quickly and the pattern was relatively easy to memorize. I generally have trouble memorizing lace patterns, but the stitch pattern and row count had a certain amount of symmetry numerically which definitely helps me out.

Find them on ravelry here.

import java.lang.Reflection.Array;
...
...
object[] addElement(object[] inArray, object element) {
Object outArray;
if (!inArray[inArray.length-1].isEmpty()) {
Class cl = inArray.getClass();
if (!cl.isArray()) {
return null;
}
Class CompType = cl.getComponentType();
outArray = Array.newInstance(CompType, inArray.length+1);
System.arraycopy(inArray,0,outArray,0,inArray.length);
outArray[outArray.length-1] = element;
return outArray;
}
else {
inArray[inArray.length-1] = element;
}
return inArray;
}

kita dapat menggunakan method diatas seperti ini

String[] namae = String[1];
myArray = addElement(myArray, "Tokido Saya");
myArray = addElement(myArray, "Natsume Rin");
myArray = addElement(myArray, "Noumi Kudryavka");
for (int i = 0; i < myArray.length; i++) {
System.out.println(myArray[i]);
}
System.out.println(myArray.length);

output program di atas
Tokido Saya
Natsume Rin
Noumi Kudryavka
3

kita lihat di awal kode kita membuat array dengan ukuran 1 elemen
pada method addElement, program akan memeriksa apakah array sudah penuh,
jika ya
program akan membuat array baru dengan ukuran array ditambah satu.
lalu menambahkan elemen kedalamnya...

selanjutnya kita coba buat array yang ukurannya bisa diciutkan, juga mengakses elemen secara random,
next time.....

I’m very sorry to say to all of you readers that I would likely taking several weeks off on bloggi

I’m very sorry to say to all of you readers that I would likely taking several weeks off on blogging. My project deadlines are really getting closer. For your information, I have three projects at the moment. One is a system in a certain restaurant, the other is a cryptography system, and the last one is the computer graphics project. As you might have guessed, my last project is about building a virtual world and put a character to (literally) explore the world. It is not an easy task, mind you.

Anyway, even though I’ll be busy doing this and that, I believe I could at least give you information about the anticipated Pokemon Platinum. Last week, the blue skY blog posted that regarding the transformation of Shaymin, it would not be same as the case of Deoxys in the previous generation. Meaning, there is a special key item to use to be able to transform Shaymin from Land Forme to Sky Forme and vice versa. This item is called Glacidia’s Flower and you can obtain it in Floaroma Town. However, this raises a debate because it would likely cause compatibility issues with the previous release of Diamond and Pearl.

That’s the information about Pokemon Platinum after about a month (yeah, it’s a quiet month, I tell you). The information is thanks to Serebii.net (hey, Serebii, I like the new layout ;-) ) and in this month (or following weeks, actually) there would likely be another information on Pokemon Platinum. And of course, I would be gladly to put those information for you readers (and Pokemon enthusiasts, just like me). So in the mean time, please be patient for the small quantity of posts and stay tuned because after I finished my projects, I have nothing to do, so I can focus on developing my blog. See you next post..!

Some weeks are so hectic that you simply don’t have time to write. And if you do, it’s n

Some weeks are so hectic that you simply don't have time to write. And if you do, it's not because you've had the chance to sit back and reflect about something, but because you have some free time in-between things to be done. That's the case for today: a few free minutes.

The day began in Madrid, in the Indian embassy, queuing for such a simple and stupid thing as a visa. It's incredible how certain processes are still done as the last century, or even the previous one. The fact is that if you want to travel to India from Barcelona, first you must go to Madrid to get your visa. The alternative is waiting around three or four weeks to have it.

And if you went there without a warning, you'd be astonished to know that they only issue a limited number of visas, clearly outnumbered by the people that need them. So the queue starts around two hours before they open. By the time they unlock the doors, there's enough people waiting to fill the entire waiting room. If you arrive at ten, just forget the visa. Come back tomorrow (in Spanish "vuelva usted mañana" although the Indians speak more English than Spanish). And that's the only way for the 46 million inhabitants of Spain to visit the 1,100-million-people country.

Well. I finally made it. I was sixth on the line. Then, to the airport to take a plane back to Barcelona. And from the airport to one of Barcelona's marinas: the Olympic port, built for Barcelona's Olympics 15 years ago.

From air planes to boats: time to sail. That's why I am here for. I am to renew my sailing licenses and, following legal requirements, I need several navigation hours with a captain instructor. A good way to ensure that people actually know about boats before granting them the right to sail them. That's what I am here for.

Time for the final comment. Where is management in all this? Well. Ask it to Captain Marcos Rivera. In a ship, there's only one captain. Such affirmation is something that we tend to forget. Authority is not a very popular value these days. It is still necessary nonetheless. Someone has to decide. There must be someone in charge, asessing the risks, analysing and drawing conclusions, and then, finally, deciding.

That doesn't mean that he (or she) is the only one to think. That would be a great loss of value, rationality, thinking capacity, a loss of options. Empowerment is still essential (and compatible), as it is dissent. But there's a limit to it. And when the captain decides, the others must follow.

Have you ever felt that, in a project or a workgroup, the problem was that the decisions were not actually being made? Or being enforced? Have you ever felt that authority was missing? That indecision and ambiguity was undermining the whole execution? That's when a good methodology for making decisions is needed.

There's a time when every task becomes critical: just give it enough wandering time and you'll see. IT comes a time when further procrastination is no longer possible. That's when a chieftain is needed.

At this time of year the touch of death is seasonably warm. Long fingers of summer light stretch out the days, and as temperatures rise, resolve for ski related projects falls.

A month of labour welcomed more reading than writing, and unsurprisingly I’ve been slacking on Six. The slope has been slippery but I’m feeling well rested, and as I look to towards the near future, the value of my idea is solidly reaffirmed.

As always, realities shift, circumstances evolve, and the final goal appears different with every new thought. Fortunately I trust my intuition, which believes the changes are for the best.

Once again the days are slowly becoming shorter, the project feels good, and my holographic train is back on track.

It is a new development, understanding that you must not only discipline yourself, but also the golems you create.

I made a small update to the GenesisConduit.Windows.Input.Speech library. The Phrase and SpokenResponse properties of the SpeechBinding and SpeechGesture objects now accept Grammer and Prompt objects respectively. In order for these properties to remain assignable from Xaml, I've implemented TypeConverters for each. The TypeConverters simply construct a new instance from a string. Later I may add support for choices within a Grammer and pauses and hints for Prompts.

I have another project in the works, so this one may be placed squarely on the back burner relatively soon.

After a very lazy bout I have suddenly become productive. I am a little bipolar that way - in a strictly non-literal sense. The last few days have been great for getting things done around the house. Tom and I FINALLY got the living room cleaned out. Our new fabulous garage shelving has been put to good use, with room to spare. For those who are not familiar with my mess of a living room, it has been a storage room for the last year since we bout this house. Now it contains only furniture. It's a little sparse, but that means more decorating projects for me - not so bad. We also fixed the light fixture over the sink. Tom installed the doorknob on the pantry. Now I have to acutally turn the knob to open the door, I can't just pull it open with my pinkie - bummer, but it does look a lot nicer. We also fixed the light fixture over the sink.That was a huge pain because we had no instructions and had to figure it out ourselves, but having that done made my kitchen look closer to complete rather than like a contstruction zone. Todaywhile Tommy boy was a-workin' I installed the last of the cabinet handles in the kitchen. We just had three to go. Now they are all in. My kitchen looks so much better. Check out this sexy handle:

Woo woo! I will only show one, I don't want anyone getting too excited. I also endeavored on a little mini-project today. I have had a letter holder for a few years, and it is pretty cute, but a little boring. I originally liked it because it has three windows for photos in the front of it, but I could never figure out what to put in the windows. I wanted to do something crafty, not just photos. I finally figured out what to do with it. Here it is before:

I took a little sandpaper to it and a can of spray paint and here is the after:

Much cuter I think. The black and white inserts are from a really cute tissue box that I have had for a few years. It was such a cute pattern I tucked it away in my craft supplies and finally found a great use for it. Yay for me! I like how it turned out, even Tom liked it (genuinely, not faking, wives can tell these sorts of things) and we usually have completely opposite taste. My next project...staining my hand-me-down desk. It's cute, but not my style. This one might take a little longer.

I think I am into the third week with Ubuntu on the mini. It feels very familiar at this point, and

I think I am into the third week with Ubuntu on the mini. It feels very familiar at this point, and I have had zero hardware issues. The Apple Keyboard mystery was solved, so it is back in the lineup. I had some spare time to install Ubuntu on my laptop, but the rest of the machines are going to have to wait until winter.

Using Ubuntu is so easy. Updates are painless (aside from the first one, which took 2.5 hours) so my system is set to check for updates daily. I finally switched my email use over to Evolution, which is outlookish. I liked SeaMonkey better, but I am trying to simplify so I have to let some things go. Right now, I have three browsers loaded. Opera, Firefox, and Ephiphany. Firefox seems to be winning, but I like using different browsers from time to time, so I'll probably keep all three.

There were some problems with embedded video in Firefox, but I think that had more to do with my choice not to use Adobe and to go with Gnash. I switched over to the restricted / non-free / not cool / or whatever it's called repositories and the issue went away after uninstalling gnash. From a user standpoint, I think it just needs to work and we like to get on with our lives to some extent. Most of the people I know don't mind playing around with software a little bit in order to get something to work, but by and large, they just don't have the time to futz with their computers. So working is good - not working is bad, and I'll pick what works every time.

Just talking from a feel level, I would have to say that this version of Ubuntu is handling everything quite nicely. I bought Win4Lin to run AutoCAD and to try the tax program I use. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I have to play around with it a while and the weather is not letting me do that. On the farm, we make hay while the sun shines. Inside jobs, like testing computer software or breaking things only happen when it's raining. In fact, I installed Ubuntu on this machine during a thunderstorm. Stupid, I know. But it was kind of fun. That is about as exciting as it gets around here.

The weather is good for the sweet corn (bi-colored) and potatoes that are planted here, along with the rest of the garden. It is also good for misquitos, which are thick and vicious. So sundown drives us all inside, and me to check things on the blogs.

That's all for now. Next rain day I'll tell you about my experience with VMWare and Win4Lin. I think you know who won.

Have Fun!

While preliminary, I have schematics mostly drawn up for a LM3915 based spectrum analyzer using Flie

While preliminary, I have schematics mostly drawn up for a LM3915 based spectrum analyzer using Fliege bandpass filters to give me bands at 60Hz, 150Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 6kHz, and 15kHz. At this point, digikey seems to have run out of LM3915's, so in about a week when they recieve some in stock I'll put my order through (I can't stand their extra $8 handling fee ontop of a second shipping charge for 7 backordered ICs).

I'll also have schematics finished soon, however last night I threw together a quick opamp + LM3915 circuit just as proof of concept, nothing all too important, but its a start. The song is "Oh What A Night" by Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons played off of a youtube clip, fed into the circuit.

Read the full post if you want the nitty-gritty electronics details.

While I do have a quad opamp, I only used it since it was the only opamp I had in my parts drawers, I could easily use 2 for a Fliege filter and the last opamp to complete a proper audio amp (ie: push-pull config) since the single opamp can only amplify positive voltage, and the oscilloscope clearly shows that the lower half of the waveform is lost. I suppose I could place the rectification stage prior to the opamp and avoid the use of an extra opamp, however this was just a fast mini-project. On the far right is the LM3915 chip with a 10 LED bar.

The cause for all the silly wires on the far right side of the breadboard is simply due to the need to limit the current of *all* the LEDs. The LM3915 does have its own internal voltage/current dividing resistor network so that the LED's all draw the same amount of current, however in doing so the chip gets hot (the circuit is run at almost 20V!). All the LED anodes are tied together and connected to a 5W 270ohm resistor in order to limit the current to the bunch. I really should be using one resistor per LED (which I likely will in the final product) however I was simply out of similar resistors in the 1/4w range.

Anyway, my schematics are almost done and to my knowledge it might be one of the few public audio spectrum analyzer schematics out there once its done (unless my google-fu is weak and I couldn't find any other similar project). Stay tuned and once I have more news I'll make another post.

Designed in the UK by Francis Farley and Rod Rainey, the Anaconda is a very simple giant rubber tube that generates energy by simply bobbing up and down in the water. Poinggg!

Anaconda produces electricity as it is squeezed by passing waves. Farley and Rainey say it would produce more energy than existing wave-energy devices. Its ultra-simple design means it would be cheap to manufacture and maintain, enabling it to produce clean electricity at lower cost than other types of wave energy converter. Cost has been a key barrier to deployment of such converters to date.

When built, each full-scale Anaconda device would be 200 meters (656 feet) long and 7 meters (22 feet) in diameter (slightly bigger than the darling snake), and deployed in water depths of between 40 and 100 meters. Initial assessments indicate that the Anaconda would be rated at a power output of 1MW (roughly the electricity consumption of 2000 houses) and might be able to generate power at a cost of 6p per kWh or less. Although around twice as much as the cost of electricity generated from traditional coal-fired power stations, this compares very favorably with generation costs for other leading wave energy concepts.

You know that voice that tells you you don't need those 6 skeins of yarn? I have two of those - my boyfriend and the one in my head. I've attempted to put my boyfriend in charge of my finances (kind of). I ask his permission before I buy anything, all though I usually disregard what he says and buy anyway. I choose to ignore my head too.

I've been working on my first cardigan lately and I'm almost done with it. I need to finish the sleeves, add the button and neck bands, seam it and place the buttons. Now that I'm this close, I'm so excited to begin my next project, so I bought six hanks of Tahki Cotton Classic to make this. I have the perfect matching dress!

Now the question is, when am I going to get to this! I still have 3 pairs of Christmas socks on the needles, my pair of socks, 3 blankets, and a pair of mittens. I've decided to rip out one bag, buy 2 more skeins of yarn (there I go again) and make a different bag. I also need to make the knitted version of Betsy now that the yarn is dry. I'm also planning on designing a pair of socks (that's actually 4 different socks). Aside from that, I just got a request for a custom order of knitted wool soakers. And a final project, I'm designing another afghan which will be called the "David loves anything" blanket - a great project to use up your scrap yarn.

I will have a free dishcloth pattern available in a few days made from Must Keep Knitting cotton. Speaking of cotton...I can't wait to make this! I'll probably lengthen the straps a bit so I can wear it on my shoulder.

We'll see where I'm at in a few days...

In recent months, my boyfriend got me interested in painting mini figurines. This was definitely one

In recent months, my boyfriend got me interested in painting mini figurines. This was definitely one of the things that I thought I'd never be able to do, but with his encouragement, we picked up a Warhammer paint starter set last week and the Citadel paint book. Since Games Workshop is the most accessible place, Warhammer was the only way to go to start off.

For anyone who is interested in learning how to paint minis, this may be a good spend to get started up. The set comes with three space marines, basic paints, decals, and a starter brush. Since it comes with several space marines, you could actually get some decent practice out of them. Or, if you're like us, you could have a friend to paint with.

For a $50 budget, it was worth to get this Space Marine paint set $25 and the How to paint Citadel Miniature paint book $25. For beginners, the book is well worth the money because it goes over the essential equipment, the various kinds of paints, brushes, and other tools, explains some problems that can come with the molds, painting techniques, explain color theory, and it also includes a stage by stage on how to paint some common models. I actually read some of the book to get a general idea on how to get started and found the tips and pretty pictures to be very helpful. Josh is the art guy, so needless to say he didn't really need it all that much ^_~ . All and all it's lots of fun and the marines can come out looking very satisfying.

Since we had an X-acto knife (to detach the pieces from the sprue cleanly) already, we picked up a can of black spray primer, a bottle of poly glue (which supposedly is better than super glue because it actually melts the plastic pieces together), and a set of basic brushes. I'd suggest getting a pair of clippers to cut the pieces off the sprue, but you can manage with just an x-acto knife on these plastic pieces. Also, if you'd like to do highlights on your marine, you'd have to buy the proper color separately; the paint set does not come with anything brighter than the dark silver. Other than that, this is all we really needed to get started.

We also used a piece of steel wool to sand down the cuts from the sprues and the rough edges left by the molds. Next time, gotta remember to do that before priming it ;D

At this point, they are already freaking badass :D It's a good idea to paint the pieces separately, then glue them all together at the end. It makes painting the gun, the backpack, and other areas on the marine hidden by these items much easier. Next time, I think I'm gonna paint them before attaching the figures onto the bases.

My first figurine! \o/ The box and the instructions show you how to paint all the marines blue and silver, but obviously there are other alternatives :D. Originally this little guy was going to be all pink. I mixed the deep red paint that came with the set with some white acrylic paint I had at home. Not a good idea. All the small details were covered up and it looked quite the chunky monkey. Sometimes in life, I wish I could just push Ctrl+Z. Not willing to erase all my boyfriend's hard paint-mixing efforts, I left a big fat pink heart plastered on her right shoulder armor instead.

Josh started painting this one. He went with an all red armor with yellow/brown trims. He let me finish painting this one for him (10 hours of High Perch might have something to do with that ;P love ya baby). This guy is battle-worn red and gold. I learned that if you water down the paint, it becomes clearer, allowing the color below to show through. I watered down the black and painted it over the red and gold. Also, the watered down black will seep through the small details on the armor, so if you add a touch of it along those tiny lines, the details on the armor will become more pronounced, creating a worn effect. I'd like to find a way to scuff up his armor a bit and make it look like he's walked through a hail of bullets.

Needless to say, I had so much fun painting these little guys and I can't wait to get better! Thanks to Josh for all the fun times and being an awesome mentor ^_^

Hope this will help you too! Have fun! If you have any tips, techniques, or experiences to share, feel free!

Current Me

I have tons to post about from the weekends... 4th of July pies, brownies, bowling... I'll post about them soon, but I thought I'd share a project today... it's called PROJECT ME!

Above is computer generated image of me, according to my body shape, weight, and height... not looking so good. Since 2000, I've been on and off Weight Watchers. The program works for me, when I actually follow it. But in the last few years whenever I restart it, there's nothing really new... no excitement... and I end up falling off the wagon again.

June 1st Ross who is a Body For Life guy and I decided to recommit ourselves to our programs. A month went by and neither of us had any big results, I went down a bit in body fat but that's it... most of the time we made excuses as to why it was okay to have this or that (which wasn't on our program).

Finally, I decided to look into Dr. Ian Smith's Fat Smash Diet, it's the program they use on the show Celebrity Fit Club. I found it to be a little bit like Weight Watchers and a little like Body For Life, a perfect program for Ross and I to try, it's a compromise to our two VERY different programs. Ross, Vi, his kids, and I started the program this past Sunday.

It's day 3 of Phase 1... there are 4 phases. It's been tough. Sunday was especially hard for the kids. Yesterday, Vi and I fell off the wagon. A patient brought me a plate of BBQ and well, I brought it home and shared. I couldn't resist, I needed to have it... so now we have to add a day to Phase 1, and instead of it being 9 days long it'll be 10.

I'll keep you updated on how it's going.

If you're interested in checking it out, we got the book for pretty cheap on Amazon.com
