This does not surprise me.  It happens to a lot of web comics.

Not mine, of course.

I just have to finish the scripts.

And then color it all in.

Simple, really.

This is neither here nor there.  Skunk Punch had a comic up I was rather pleased with.  Namely my own.  I wanted to save it for posterity.  Thus.  It appears here.

First off...  I went about looking for a How To Write Comic Script type deally.  See, I haven't given up on the comic quite yet.   Unlike so many projects that pop up around here.  (Insert obligatory reference to the Godzilla/Beast from 20,000 Fathoms comparison essay right about... here)

Any hoo, I found a site... can't remember where it is for the life of me... that suggested I should set up a sort of rough draft based on pages.  For instance, were I doing a DC super hero Comic, I would set it up thusly:

1. Power Girl is flying over Metropolis.
2. She spies a hapless fellow falling from a building, one she deftly rescues.
3. The fellow (one Cullen Waters) promptly asks for a date.  She refuses and leaves him weeping on the street.  She can't believe how often that crap happens
4. Cullen vows to be come the greatest superhero ever (greater than even Ambush Bug!) in order to impress Power Girl.  He goes through a fierce training regiment in order to do so.
5. His first time out, (using the name Waterboy) Cullen winged by Jimmy Olsen, who has mistaken him for the Joker.  For some reason.
6. Power Girl, in the neighborhood, rushes Cullen to the hospital.  He again asks for a date and is again refused.  She doesn't even recognize him from the last time she saved his life.
7. Heartbroken, Cullen resigns himself to the fact he'll have no chance at Power Girl.  But too late!  Waterboy has caught the notice of the horrific... Argh!Yle!

And so on and so forth.

Now the site didn't say to use numbers like that, but you know me. Anal.

The end result is that I have a rough draft for the first chapter of the comic. Which puts me a step ahead. I mean, before I just had a general outline in my head for what I wanted.  Now now I can see it, plan for it, and, hope against hope, actually do it.  Cross your fingers, people.

Learning experience #2 comes from the blog of Scott Kutz, creator of the web comic PVP.  He had a reader suggest that when proofreading, he should start reading sentences backwards in order to catch goof ups such as a your-for-you're situation.  Today I tried that with the yesterday's post and caught two errors!

Out of the billions of errors still there.

And the trillions in the rest of the blog.

But!   It's a start.

Of course, I weep about doing this trick using a novel.  That's going to be... urk.

Anyway, it should help with the essays (and the comic.)

Anyhoo, a couple of quick comments:

Numero Uno:  the fantastic return of my webcomic is, sadly, going to be delayed.  I know, I know.  What else is new?  What haven't I delayed/left unfinished?  When I have better news, I'll report it here.

Numero Two-oh:  Gots me an early birthday present.  Namely the complete collection of Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer DVD.  It's been Fun with a capital F.  Some words will be doled out about it in due course.

Or not.  You've been reading this thing.  You know the drill by now...

Back to staring at Power Girl.  It's hard to do this and read comics.  But I'm up for it

Two comments on this glorious image.

1. I was going through my files and found this image, right on the cusp of completion.  Had I posted it on the blog?  No?  Why not?

   Well, other than the fact it's depicting a baby on the verge of being eaten alive.

2. Anyone who's played Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island will tell you you can't drop the Baby into the plant monsters.  Which is why I only rented the game and never bought it.

   What?  Don't look at me like that.

I'm surprised I'm not dreaming in HTML.  That's what happened last time.  Full frontal code.  I still can't stop shaking.

The comic site is finished... more or less.  There are a few bugs to work out still, but that can wait.  I'm sick of coding.  Or whatever it's called.  Do you hear me?  SICK OF CODING!  SICK UNTO DEATH!  FIE AND PHUI UPON IT AND IT'S KIN!

Anywho, Dr. Doom-light outbusts aside, you can check it out here, iffin you would.  Gimme a word on how it looks.

In related news, Brother Eric has confessed to me that I know more about HTML than he does.  But that's not the only thing I know more than he does.  Oh no.  The vastness of my knowledge is unbound!  SOON HE AND THE ACCUSED FANTASTIC... WHATEVER THEY ARE... WILL LEARN!!!  AND SO TOO SHALL THE WORLD!!!!  ALL SHALL KNEEL BEFORE THE MIGHT AND POWER OF DR. CULLEN!!!!!

Or bow.  Or just tuck your head.  Whatever floats your boat, man.  Just.... Just stop looking at me like that, okay?  Creeps me out.

Part of the problem?  Real life.  It's been sticking its long and pointy nose into my affairs.  CURSE YOU, REAL LIFE!

The other problem is the comic.  I hope to be a month (or more) ahead when we reach Restart.  Now, back in the day, that would mean 4 comics, one for every week of the month.  This time, I hope for a three comics a week scheduale.  Which means I would need at least a... number... of comics... more than... um... 4.¹

I'm on page 3.  Still.

In theory, I could draw a page a day (I've done it a time or two).  It's the scanning, the clean up, the coloring, the shading, the writing (my God, I have to write too?) the rewriting, the despair over the art work, the redrawing, the rescanning, the...  This all takes time.  Especially since it's a one person operation.

I hope to do more work on this blog.  But...  we shall have to see.

Tonight, I should be uploading alterations to the comic site.  New headers, and what not.  Should be fun.  Gimme a holler at how it looks, either at this post (#843?  That can't be right, can it?)  And, as always, be good.

FUTURE CULLEN sez:  Hahahaha1  What a funny joke I told then!  To think that Luddite Waters could actually update his site and have NO PROBLEMS!!!!!!  AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Best Idea Ever!

It's been since December since I've updated the comic. Some may well be thinking, is he ever going to get back on with the work? They may well even wonder if there is some reason for the delay, beyond the loss of a scanner. Here's the thing. I'm damn proud of the comic. I think the art's some of the best work I've done. It's meant to improve my craft, tell my stories, and I think it's done that.

Only... It could have been better. It should have been better. And this knowledge has killed further work on the story. I've tried to pick things up, but it's just not working out.

So, it's with a heavy heart that I have to say... I'm starting the whole thing over.

From scratch.

I've been working on a new way of doing things.

I've set out a sort of story guide that leads me through twenty stories. This includes the one I was going to use as the novel.

My art should be improved as well as I am not longer drawing page-for-page, or even enlarged panels. Now I'm using four 8.5X11 pages for a single page. This should allow better detals as well as better all around pictures.

I'm also going to try and get a few of these stories published on their own. Loads of work.

The comic should restart around my birthday, and I hope to have a story or two out before that.

More word as warrented, and I hope you'll all be here to see it all start. Again.

Also, I'm totally aware that POB comics could just be posted on PHW and whatever the POB website will be.  I'm also aware that chances are no one will read this post.

1. If release comics at the rate Delirium usually does they will all be total crap.

2. I currently can't run HL2 maps in Gmod.

3. I don't own Counterstrike or Day of Defeat so I can't work from those.

No, seriously do it

What we have here is a shift in ad box.  Namely, the ad box for my webcomic.  As I've got the scanner in near working order, I figured it was time for a overhaul of the thing.

That and I was getting tired of the "On the One Noad to Nuin" jokes.

All two of them.

We begin with the old:

As you can see, the Rs look too much like Ns for anyones taste.  The font (Wicked Queen) is nice in the larger sizes, but dinky...  I don't think so.

Hopefully that's an improvement.
