We mentioned the 25th anniversary of the Glasgow's Miles Better campaign recently, and our own thought that it was the only one that really worked, primarily because it was fun, and didn't try to make its point by being demeaning to others, something that the truly dreadful Glasgow, Scotland with style slogan markedly fails to do - and has rightly earned local derision as a result: the irony of Glasgow: Scotland with Style®

We had a comment with some more info, which we thought merited another mention as it adds some detail we were unaware of.

Some years after the original Miles Better campaign, and some less than successful attempts to emulate the original's success, there was a further run of Glasgow's Miles Better that lasted for about three years. The revised campaign came to an end when Mr Happy proved to be too expensive to be retained as the headline celebrity of the campaign, and a demand of some £28,000 in copyright fees for his appearance led to the end of the campaign.

You just have to think that somehow, that's not really what copyright's meant to be used for, but, that's the way the system works, so that's that.

Siguiendo con la recién descubierta afición por el fieltro me he decidido por estos personajes adorables creados por Roger Hargreaves. Me he decidido a empezar por Don Feliz (Mr Happy), aparte de porque me encanta, por una razón obvia: es fácil ^^

Cuando era pequeña teníamos en casa muchos cuentos de de esta colección, me chiflaban. Puede ser que sigan en casa de mi abuela (completamente pintarrajeados, me temo) o que al crecer nosotros mis padres se los diesen a alguien, lo que sé seguro es que en la caja donde guardo los libros infantiles no están :( (seguramente se quedaron atrás en la mudanza).

I have to admit I wasn't going to mention this, but after seeing it pop up in a number of places, changed my mind, and reckoned that Mr Happy should get another airing. Even the council has remembered him.

The best advertising campaign ever created for Glasgow was launched in June 1983, Mr Happy became an honorary Glaswegian, and a campaign that started with a limited budget had spread to the whole nation within a year. Much of the success and motivation for the revitalisation of the city came from Dr Michael Kelly, Glasgow's lord provost at the time.

Unlike today's dire campaigns, so sick-making that I find myself gagging as I type 'Glasgow: Scotland with style' just to include the current example, the 1983 campaign didn't consume tens of thousands of pounds, or try to belittle others to make itself look good, and as I recall, wasn't attached to any cash-consuming celebrity leeches. It did have a nice play on the words it used though.

Mr Happy saw royalty arrive, as the Queen visited to open the Burrell Collection in Pollok Park, and the Prince of Wales inaugurated the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival, created on a site clawed back from derelict former dockland. The event was a huge success with a mixture of cultural events and attractions such as the Coca Cola Roller Coaster, and Clydesale Bank Tower. While we all know it would close and vanish, everyone was sad to see it go, and the site lie derelict for nearly twenty years, despite promises to the contrary - but those of us who had even half a brain knew the development promised to follow the festival would not appear the next day.

In 1990, Glasgow became European City of Culture, beginning another year of events which further improved the city's new image, and diluting the old "No Mean City" heritage, and which Dr Kelly attributed to Mr Happy.

The little fella can still be found surviving in several places, and supports one of our east end fish & chip shops

Sedikit serius, ketika berbicara tentang seks, secanggih dan secerdas apapun, kalo menyangkut soal yang satu ini, ada saja yang terpedaya oleh mitos-mitos ‘sesat'. Mitos-mitos ini pula yang menyuburkan praktek-praktek alternatif macam Mak Erot dll. Apalagi, saya sebagai pejuang lingkungan dan pecinta binatang, sangat memandang sinis terhadap mereka, konsumen bodoh, bebal, nan tolol, yang membunuhi binatang demi mendongkrak kejantanan mereka yang loyo, letoy, lemah, letih, lesu (sori, kalo soal beginian, saya paling emosi).

Bayangkan, tangkur buaya ???? Huahahaha.... Trus cula badak ??? Aduhduhduh, kandungannya kan sama dengan tanduk kebo ??? Apalagi sampe empedu beruang. Astagaaaa.......bener-bener keluar dari list pria idaman !!! Mereka adalah pria-pria yang pantas dikasihani dan ditendang ke kutub utara, biar mr.Happy-nya tambah kisut mengkiruttttt !!!! (sadisssss....)

Salah satu mitos kejantanan yang berkaitan dengan kejantanan, misal makan daging kambing akan meningkatkan libido, konon karena sifat daging kambing yang panas. Ternyata setelah saya browsing-browsing, kandungannya sama saja dengan daging sapi. Kemungkinan, mitos tersebut muncul lantaran cara masak daging kambing yang cenderung kaya akan rempah-rempah. Contohlah, gulai, kare, atau gecok (eh, ada yang udah pernah ngerasain gecok kambing ?? Banyak terdapat di Ampel, Boyolali tuh. Saya juga belom pernah nyoba, baru lewat saja). Nah, sejenis gulai, kare, atau gecok itu bumbu-bumbunya kaya dengan rempah-rempah yang bersifat menghangatkan badan, eperti merica, jahe, serai, lempuyang, dll. So, sangat mungkin yang menyebabkan tubuh terbakar adalah rempah-rempah itu.

Soal rempah-rempah, sudah ada yang mendengar (mitos) kalau merica sendiri juga berpotensi mendongkrak libido ??? Jadi, buat yang lagi kere bin bokek ga sanggup beli daging kambing, beli saja mie ayam dan taburi merica banyak-banyak^^.

Saya jadi teringat juga, cerita dari dosen saya yang sangat ganteng dan berkharisma, walau sudah tidak lagi muda. Mahasiswi psikologi UGM pasti mahfum, siapa yang saya maksud. Ganteng, smart, matang, walau cenderung arogan. Loh, kok jadi deskripsi tentang dosennya sih?? Oke-oke, jadi begini. Era 80an (sekarang juga masih sih, walau ga tau triknya masih sama atau tidak), kawasan Kaliurang sering sekali dipakai untuk tempat berdua-duaan, memadu janji dan kasih. Nah, triknya, sebelum berangkat, berdua makan bakso. Bakso kan banyak sekali mengandung MSG atau vetsin tuh. Nah, vetsin inilah yang konon membakar hormon entah apa, sehingga ketika melarikan motor ke Kaliurang yang menanjak, kenceng, membuat jantung tambah deg-degan. Akibatnya, tentu saja sang kekasih yang dibonceng, semakin mengetatkan pelukan, apalagi didukung hawa Kaliurang yang adem....Whoooohoooo!!! :mrgreen:

Kembali ke mitos. Selain mitos-mitos yang berhubungan dengan pendongkrak kejantanan, ada lagi mitos-mitos yang berkaitan dengan ukuran. Gara-gara ini juga, sewaktu genk Parkiran masih guyub, cewek-cewek Parkiran sering cekikikan penuh rahasia sambil meneliti ‘properti' orang-orang di sekitar kami (huahahaahaa......guys, kami minta maap yaaa.....mungkin ada yang merasa jadi korban kala itu ???).

Mitos-mitos itu misalnya, ukuran panjang, diameter, kekokohan, dll mr.Happy bisa diprediksi dari ukuran jempol kaki, hidung, jempol tangan, ukuran sepatu/kaki, tinggi tubuh, dll. Bahkan konon, lelaki yang berbulu cenderung mempunyai hasrat yang lebih tinggi daripada yang tidak, karena berarti mereka mempunyai kadar testosteron yang lebih dari rata-rata.

Huaahahahaa....aseli pada saat-saat sableng itu, kami sering cekikian tak terkendali, sibuk membahas, menganalisa, dan mendiskusikan dampaknya bagi kami, kaum perempuan.

Saya sendiri tidak tahu kebenarannya. Hanya saja, kami semua, cewek-cewek Parkiran setuju, bahwa jari kaki dan tangan yang bersih, ndak usah dimanicure segala, asal bersih, membuat kami jauh lebih berselera daripada jari dengan kuku-kuku panjang, kotor hitam, dekil, dan kumuh.

Selain mitos di atas, dari Cosmopolitan edisi lawas, menyatakan bahwa konon ada hubungan antara cara makan laki-laki dengan gaya dia bercinta. Cosmo mengatakan, cara termudah dan tercepat adalah ajak si Dia untuk makan seafood sejenis lobster atau kepiting dan diakhiri dengan dessert semangkuk es krim. Perhatikan gayanya. Kalau dia makan buru-buru, slebor, tidak ‘berseni' maka kemungkinan dalam bercinta, dia pun demikian.

Tetapi berbeda dengan dia yang menyantap kepiting / lobster dengan hati-hati, teliti, setiap sudut cangkang dia korek dengan penuh perhatian, memperlakukan dengan takzim, maka kemungkinan besar dalam memperlakukan pasangan pun demikian. Seperti salah satu episode Sex and The City, dimana sang pria mencoba mendemonstrasikan kehebatannya dalam mengolah ranjang dari cara dia melahap tiram. Dan selanjutnya hal tersebut menjadi guyonan Carrie dan kawan-kawan.

Jadi ??

Berhati-hatilah mulai sekarang, wahai jomblo kaum adam. Karena, setiap saat perilaku kalian telah diobservasi dan dinilai oleh kaum hawa di sekitarmu :mrgreen:

Waktu itu betul-betul tidak sengaja. Ga ada angin, ga ada hujyan, ga bechek, ojyek, jhanchuk (lafal a la Cincha Lawra versi Jawa Timuran), tergeletak begitu saja di ruang TV, katalog produk suatu MLM yang cukup terkenal. Karena dalam satu rumah tidak ada yang menjadi anggota MLM, tentu saja ini mengherankan. Jangan-jangan tadi salah seorang anggota keluarga sempet diprospek, pikir saya.

Karena ga ada kerjaan dan malam itu di TV Cuma ada shitnetron, saya iseng baca-baca katalog. Wah, ternyata produknya macam-macam ya ^TM, dan mahal-mahal. Dari suplemen hingga kaus kaki. Kaus kaki saja seharga 118.000 - 124.000. Trus, ada juga pasta gigi khusus muslim, lengkap dengan hadits-haditsnya. Ada juga ciput atau tudung kepala sebelum berjilbab, yang harganya berkisar 208.000 -222.000, dengan klaim bisa membantu melegakan pusing, mengurangi perasaan tidak enak, hingga mengurangi lesu, letih, lemah.

Sampai produk-produk ini, perasaan saya biasa saja, malah cenderung skeptis. Apa iyaaaa, mahal bangettt siiih, gitu komentar saya dalam hati.

Dan perasaan itu berubah seketika begitu membaca produk ini.

yup, as incredible as it sound, i was looking at my drooping fan and wondering why its bent so low when suddenly, without a reason or rhyme, it fell off the wall. thank to my uber quick lightning fast reflexes, i managed to catch it in my hands, with the blades still turning.

so there i was, holding it for a good 5 mins, before i was able to "kiap" my phone to within my reach(using my legs) and call my other hall mates for help.

urgh. this sucks! and i just bathed!
