COMMENT

Well...menurut gua kalo dibandingin sama Hary Potter sih, kayaknya buku ini susah deh menyamai sukses Harry Potter (at least di Indonesia).

No more boring tee shirts in Beechview after Saturday, September 20! Come at 3:00 p.m. with a T-shirt you don't mind altering or use one of ours (Seriously, though, ours are either plain or have Summer Reading writing all over them.) We'll use ideas ideas from "Generation T: 108 Ways to Transform a T-shirt." I'll provide the scissors and the chalk. Any sewing you want to do will have to be on your own. I'm planning to slash some sleeves and get rid of an uncomfortable crewneck. Flashdance lives!

That's not all happening here. Every first Saturday we have gaming from 1:00-3:30 p.m. and a Teen meeting directly following. Both are cool ways to get with your buds but we serve food at the meeting.

We'll also discuss Angie's Sage's "Magyk" on September 29, 5:30 p.m. It's about good wizards vs. a bad wizard-- where have I heard that before? Magyk has plenty of magic of its own including a cool family that's hiding a princess, a soldier boy who has more to him than it first seems and a marshy island retreat with plenty of colorful characters.

And lastly, don't miss our Halloween lock-in, Thursday, October 23, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Alan Irvine will tell spooky stories. We'll commit extreme carving (of pumpkins and other gourds) and decorate the library for Halloween.

*Sigh* It's official, what I like to call sequel syndrome has finally reached the Septimus Heap series. While Mrs. Sage provided small bits of newness in "Physik" the novel still seemed stagnant. All the hilariously ridiculous characters that made the first book so wonderful (And to a lesser extent the secound) were winnowed down to a bare handful who's oddities had been toned way down. Of course this might have been fine if there had been some new characters introduced that were even close to as ludicrous as the originals had been. I understand Mrs. Sage probably wants to further develop her characters but she does so at a cost to what made me enjoy the first novel, the unexpected wittiness and insanity of the people in her book. I suppose the third was decent but not one I would read over again (And if you know me then you know I tend to reread almost everything eventually). Oh, one last note, all the author had to do to redeem the novel for me was to give Bert a few moments of attention. I miss the cat-turned-into-a-duck-that-attacks-when-annoyed :( ........ poor Bert

Wow, ok, yeah……totally forgot about doing this. I finished the book last Saturday night

Wow, ok, yeah......totally forgot about doing this. I finished the book last Saturday night but what with packing for college and actually getting here I completely forgot about putting it up here. Oh well. Anyway "Flyte" is a sequel. For me sequel's are never anywhere close to the level of interest that the original book achieves. In a sequel there's not nearly as much "new" material, in other words you can expect what happens, the reader knows the rules of the world the novel takes place in. However "Flyte" does a moderately decent job of keeping a fresh feeling to itself while maintaining the previous storyline. Unfortunately the story itself isn't anything that makes you guess what will happen (Much like the first one). Mrs. Sage's skill seems to be in the invention of interesting characters and scenarios, but not in the area of unseen plot twists. Still the book was definitely worth reading, if for nothing else but to see the expansion of the original world created in "Magyk" and characters that are sure to make you laugh with their quirky ways. Although I was disappointed that the cat-transformed-into-a-duck-that-attacks-randomly didn't make an appearance but was there only by a brief mention or two. Poor Bert..... maybe in the next book he'll get a lead role......

Magyk is one of those books I've been hearing about from friends for a while but just never gotten around to reading. The book has the feel of an old faerie tale that's been revamped with sarcasm and modern day spice. While mainly aimed at kids in the lower teens the novel was still enjoyable to me. Especially the cat, Bert. You have to love a cat who's been turned into a duck that habitually attacks unwary enemies. Way to go Bert...... :P Anyway Mrs. Sage (There's a pen name for ya!) did a wonderful job in keeping the old time atmosphere of classical myth while seeding in ridiculous things such as Shield Bugs, Boy 412, and Petroc (A walking pet rock). I'll stick to my principal of not giving away plots and spoiling stories for others, but anyone who's read books before can see the novel's plot twist from a mile away, or actually the first few chapters. Still I like that confirming feeling of knowing that I'm right after finishing a book.... seem to get that a lot :P

the latest novel that i read is titled MAGYK by angie sage. i read the indonesian version which contains more than 500 pages. luckily they made the letter big enough, considering that it is a novel for kids.

the front cover

as we can read, the title is magyk, and refer to that, yeah, you will directly guess and know that the story must be related to magic, or something magical, and yes it it.

this is the summary of the book i got from kidsworld website:

Septimus Heap: Magyk - Things Are Not As They Appear

When Silas and Sarah Heap welcome their seventh son, Septimus, into the world, they are thrilled. He is the seventh son of the seventh son and legend holds that he will be a very powerful wizard. But, before they even realize what's happened, the midwife informs Sarah that the baby has died during birth. Just as the midwife is running out of the Heap's home, with the dead baby in her arms, Silas arrive back withherbs for the new mom and baby. But that's not all he has. Walking home, Silas also stumbled upon a baby girl, left for dead in the woods.

actually i wanted to buy this book from around 4 or 5 months ago, but it just happened that i was confused whether i should buy it or not. i was just afraid that the story would be disappointed. so 2 weeks ago, i went to bookstore, looking for books to read, since im on my holiday and got a lot of free time. finally i bought the book, after half a hour reading the back cover of some books.

and the book is not a disappointment. i love the story. its flow was just nice. i just couldn't stop reading the book, and finished reading it in less than a week. though the story is kinda simple, the writer could describe the person, place, etc well. for those who like fiction, esp fantasy kind of book, i recommend you this one.

Sepuluh tahun pemerintahan Wali Utama ternyata memiliki maksud tersembunyi.

Pengejaran Sang Pembunuh Bayaran memaksa Marcia membawa Jenna meninggalkan Kastil.
