But Merozen has been progressing. I finally gave all the characters last names, and developed some of the characters personalities further.

The mother of Melody, Fate Hughes, I also feel would stand out from all the characters I have ever designed. Not just because of her appearance, but her unusual personality.

My obsession with VOCALOID continues. I listen to nothing but VOCALOID made songs most the time. Ahaha...

Today I decided to Google search "anime" but restrict it to New Zealand pages, in the hope of finding a NZ anime community or something similar. But instead I ended up finding things very irrelevant to what I wanted.

One of those things... HATSUNE MIKU IN LUCKY STAR?! It peeked my curiosity that I had to find that episode. And so I did.

About 16 minutes in this part started; it was pretty funny. Konata is so cruel, but it's just too good not to see.

Normally I begin my reviews with an introduction to the character, however I think if you are not an Otaku who has been living under a rock, you should know who Miku is by now ^_^;;. (In case you have been living under a rock, go visit my Figma Hatsune Miku Review).

The figure is based on an original drawing by the character designer (Can't remember his name, brain fart ^_^;;). Figure specs are as follows:

• Scale: 1/8
• Material: PVC and ABS
• Scuptor: Yoshi(Trepang) / Nendoron
• Company: GoodSmile Company

It's a wonder how I managed to snag a pre-order of this, but I somehow managed, to my delight. Otherwise she is pretty much sold out everywhere now, and the pre-orders of the October re-stock are full up as well. Bummer for those who haven't pre-ordered! I hope this review does not make you jealous, that isn't my intention. Instead it must make you pre-order her next time she is available!

Anyways, here's the atypical pictures of the box and stuff.

I can't read the back, but I bet you one of the lines says, "Warning. Do not place in a room full of Otaku, or violence may occur."

Don't you love that new PVC plasticy smell as soon as you open the box of a new figure? If you do, you better watch out, as may be hazardous to your health to sniff it too long ^_^;;

She comes with a darkish-clear plastic stand which fell out of the box when I opened it. It was a battle to remove all of the plastic wrapping from Miku as well. This is where I found out how to "cast her off," as she also had plastic wrapping on her pantsu.

Finally, mission accomplished! Miku is all unwrapped and placed on her stand in all her majestic otaku-magnetiastiatic glory. The figure is pretty much an exact replica of the artist drawing shown earlier with Miku in a leaning backward standing position, right hand covering one of her ear-phones, and trademark long-ass twin tails twirling around her.

She's incredibly eye-catching with her very shiny metallic vest, glossy green tie, glossy skirt and stockings. Hair is shaded exceptionally well in green tones. All details are painted with exquisite detail from her eyes to her tattoo, to her fingernails. All in all, the keyword for this figure is "Ooh Shiny."

Her vest is really shiny, but in the photos it comes across as sparkly dots. Probably because of my dodgy Sony Camera. It's cool who you can actually see "Vocaloid" on her left eye, unlike the Figma version.

NOT! You didn't think I'd forget about the pantsu did I? Below is how you "cast off" the skirt. You basically have to bisect her at the waist, take the skirt off, then put her back together.

And here she is in all of her pantsulising ecchifiering panchira showing glory. Not much of a cast off, but hey, you gotta take what you can get.

In conclusion, I shall now give her my score. Unfortunately she is a static PVC figure so I'm going to have to award her a 9. Yes, all static figures rated on the Ace scale lose 1 point for being non-articulated ^_^;;

If however, that does not matter to you, then she is pretty much a quasi-perfect figure. As seen in the photos the details are spot on. The paint job is superb, accuracy to the art almost identical, and she is damn cute. She's also a very highly coveted collector's item, so you can bask in your otaku-ism if you obtain this figure.

The face is slightly different to the Max Factory Figma version though - I think this PVC version looks slightly cuter to be honest. Overall, I really like both figures a lot though, and recommend them both. The main one I'm missing is the Nendroid version, however I have the December re-release pre-ordered so I won't be Nendroid-less for that much longer!

I hope you enjoyed that review and have now convinced you to look high and low for this figure. Bai bai now!

Ah, finally got the time to post this episodic. Though you can’t really call it an episodic since it’s just one OVA.

Also, yes, I’m late.

I was looking forward to this greatly, and while I didn’t know what to expect (except for maybe a Kagamiku) I felt watching it would be worth it, especially since I’m an LS fan as well.

The OVA is split into different parts, all with seemingly no chronological order whatsoever.

Oh you perverted dog.

The first part involves Minami’s house, and centers around her dog, Cherry. The main cast make their appearance in and around the house, some visiting, while others simply passing by. This part was simple and slow, except for the part where Cherry brutally assaults Hiyori:

Ouch.

Also, kawaii Yutaka is kawaii.

I didn’t get the part at the end though, when Minami goes all emo over her dog being sick, then the dog closing its eyes. Meh.

Next part has Kagami and Tsukasa playing an MMORPG (in full 3D) with Konata and Kuroi-sensei (which may or may not be the MMO mentioned in the series), stating the reason that Kagami was a fan of the novelist who scripted the anime which inspired the game.

Holy crap, that’s a mouthful.

The 4 of them take on the roles of players normally seen in most MMOs, namely Konata being the contributer (to the gaming community), Kuroi-sensei being the grinder (grinding all the way during Golden Week), Kagami being the average player (knowing just enough), and Tsukasa being the newbie.

Extreme newbie, to be precise.

Also, lol @ the Hare Hare Yukai pose, especially with that random player posing with them on the very right, then leaving immediately after.

Things also occur in the background of the scenes shown in the MMO, like PK-ing (Player Killing). Look out for them. ^.^

Next part is the dream sequence, where Kagami is left alone in the house and experiences a very strange dream.

Also, Kagami-rin and Kagamiku! The fact that this is Kagami’s dream probably shows that she has some sort of otaku side to her after all. ;)

The dream turns out to be a parody of your average Cinderella story, though instead of dancing with the prince, the main character has to fight for him (and against him in the end) in a wrestling tournament.

Did I mention the prince happens to be Misao? XD

It’s a shame Kagami rejects the “prince” and goes straight home. Kagamiku in a wrestling tournament would be epic.

Also, lol @ Kagami waking up, and Tsukasa’s reaction. I bet all the Konata x Kagami fans are happy.

Next up is the volleyball scene. I’ve been told this was a parody of some old anime called “Attack No. 1” though I’ve never watched it, so how would I know. >.>

LOL @ failed JET STREAM ATTACK.

This part had a bit of drama in it, though it ends with smiles so it’s all good.

Note to self: Never jump into the net.

Next is the hiking skit…or rather the “getting lost while out hiking” skit. Let that be a lesson to those who forget their compasses! Miyuki does the narrating in this one, since she’s telling the story to her mother.

The effect of ghost stories at night. Note how nobody makes any attempt to console her.

Also, fierce Sensei is fierce. Thankfully she calms down and lets them have their dinner anyway.

Lastly, some surreal take into the Lucky Star world. Echoing voices? Check. Dark atmosphere? Check. Use of strange angles and reflections? Check.

Some anime references here as well (I’m not mentioning all of them here btw), including Soul Eater and the obvious Code Geass (as if “I AM ZERO!” isn’t obvious enough :P).

And then more mindfuck.

Keroro reference…

…gone mad.

Then Konata wakes up, to find that they’ve turned into frogs.

Shiraishi does his “wawawawasuremono~” here, then the film reel breaks up and ends.

Meito makes his final appearance in the MMO, attempting to set up shop and sell his epic loot to Legendary Girl A. Unfortunately for him, she happens to be AFK (Away From Keyboard). ^.^;

There’s also a live-action Lucky Channel during the credits. Akira doesn’t go tsun-tsun this time (unlike the series), and her high voice is cute, as well as her long sleeved seifuku. Shiraishi is seen wearing a Yaranaika tie. Whether this is a reference to the infamous manga, Minami-ke, or just plain humour is unknown.

In your face, Shiraishi.

Well, that’s it then. The OVA itself was basically meant for LS fans and otakus in general, so if you got all the references (Gundam, Code Geass, Soul Eater, Hatsune Miku, Fate/Stay Night, Macross Frontier) then congratulations, you’re a true otaku. Otherwise, you’re just like me, a bit clueless here and there. XD

As a whole, this OVA was alright. It wasn’t stellar, but neither was it horrible beyond measure. It satiated my thirst for moar LS, and I think I can rest easier now. LOL

I doubt there’ll be a second season, despite other people’s opinions that there should be, since there’s not really much to go through. (except for maybe the rest of the manga…but I’m not familiar with that. orz)

"Attempt to Make Hatsune Miku Ride a Bike"

You may or may not have heard of Murata Seisaku-kun, a robot built by Murata Manufacturing to ride a bike without falling even when it is stopped. Well, the author found it to be really cool and wanted to construct a 1/7 figure of Miku that can ride a bike. Even if you don't understand Japanese, you should be able to follow it. I'm very impressed with the end product. I would pay to get my hands on one. Actually, it would even better if it had Rin standing on the back with arms spread out. That'd be cool.

My friend EG helped me to buy figma miku from a retailer, Toon Shoppe in Penang. The rest was purchased via Malaysia online shop TheFigureMall. On date this post written they still have stock for figma kagami here and figma rin here. Nice reviews on kagami, rin and miku by foobarbaz (in Japanese).

misao view : I simply love twintail girls. And most of them are tsundere by default. Most figure fan I knew choose their figures by it's look and quality but for me I buy figures of anime characters I love the most. Still need to choose carefully else ending up buying everything is bad for your pocket health.

Nemuiwanko here! The popularity of Miku is still increasing as shown by the arrival of a figma and 1/8 figure to accompany my nendoroid. They designed them pretty well, especially the 1/8th one. Her clothes are shiny and feels different from the PVC material they normally use though. But as my second 1/8 figure, I am glad that I pre-ordered it. This figure is probably too hard to get now xD;

Well, it's here and I shall dedicate my first post in October to it.

A massive OVA which consists of seven chapters and runs at forty-three minutes long. That's something to be happy about. ^^ I just laughed my day away from watching it.

Spoilers ahead!

1. Cherry-chan.

Yukata was caught by Tamura while playing and singing to Minami's dog, Cherry.

"Give me the cookie!"

I like this part when Cherry was patting attacking Tamura to get her cookie. It's rare to get hitted by a dog. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw her expression. It's way too funny.

Anyway, I don't understand why Cherry buried the cookies instead of eating them. She was ill and may be she could not eat the cookies?

2. MMORPG.

Discussing on how to get the item.

Nanako plays the role of a warrior, Konata as theif, Kagami as healer, and Tsukasa as mage.

"Help! I don't know how to play other than eating meat."

Tsukasa was eating meat though her health bar is full. =__________= It's funny that she did not realise she have to press 'enter' in order to type. Haha. Konata is smart in knowing her weakness.

3. Kagami Miku.

"Come on here, Kagami. This is a horse carriage."

Konata as a magician. Kagami, the Cinderella refused to attend the ball.

"Oh no, the star is gone. I can't transform you back. Hehehe."

Konata has turned her into Hatsune Miku and off they went to the ball which is actually the wrestling match.

The spell broke at twelve, causing Kagami could not return home on time.

4. Tsukasa against Kagami in a volleyball match.

5. Lost in the woods.

Tsukasa with her priceless look. Konata was telling scary stories to entertain the rest while finding their ways out of the wood. It's surprising that Tsukasa knows something about astronomy. But too bad, it was not helpful in finding the path back to camp.

Last but not least, way to go Lucky Star! -Decides to buy more figures-

When something becomes awfully popular, people will start basing a lot of characters off of it eventually.

Especially when the said popular object happens to be a moe vocal synthesizer that's extremely customizable.

I could go and list every one of them ever made, but that's like listing every species of fish living in the ocean. Submitting a post of that length could probably kill Wordpress, so I won't do that.

Hachune Miku

Probably the first spinoff, this chibi-sized Miku debuted in the most popular Miku viral of all time: Ievan Polkka.

Obviously, Hachune has no voice of her own, though she has that signature face and leek swinging.

Yowane Haku

Haku's a mascot for all the failure Miku song creators out there; those yet unable to produce anything more than a mechanical-sounding voice out of Miku. To quote a source:

Yowane Haku (弱音ハク) - Her name means “Speaking weak words” (‘Speaking’ here has connotation of a pent up sigh or muttering). She gets her start from a thread in 2chan where a user commented “I bought Hatsune Miku for her cute looks but no matter how hard I try, I can’t get anything better than mechanical sounding songs out of her. An artist took this and ran with it to create Yowane Haku, an alter ego of all unskilled users of Hatsune Miku. Haku is a sad Vocaloid who just can’t sing as well as Miku. She is always crying because of her frustration and vents her frustration by drinking. Her image colors are silver and purple. Her character item is a sake bottle.

So in short, Haku's a depressed VOCALOID (or rather, VOYAKILOID) who drinks and emos all over the place. She's one of the most popular spinoff, appearing in a lot of fanart. This might be the original artist, but I can't be sure, since a lot of people draw fanart of her anyway.

Akita Neru

Akita Neru (亞北ネル, which sounds like "I’m tired. Gonna go to sleep.") was came about when a 2chan user began trolling Hatsune Miku (and all other VOCALOID) threads on the board. A user commented that he wouldn't get angry if the troll happened to be a cute girl, and hence (thanks to some artist) Neru was born.

Akita Neru's an orangish-yellow character, famous for having only one of Miku's twintails, and is usually depicted as a tsun-dere character, jealous of Miku's success. She also carries a matching foldable cellphone around, and is sometimes depicted as having a crush on Kagamine Len.

Zatsune Miku

Not much is known about Zatsune Miku (雑音ミク), but from what I can tell, she's a sadistic VOCALOID. Her theme colours are black and red, though her costume appears to differ among artists. I don't have any real song concerning her to show you though, sorry, so here's more fanart to compensate:

Basically a male Miku. Not much difference, except for the fact that he has no twintails, and wears pants instead of a skirt. No video here either.

Kasane Teto

My personal favourite.

Kasane Teto (重音テト) is a little different from the other spin-offs mentioned above. Teto is actually voice data for a separate piece of software, UTAU, which in turn is a spin-off of the VOCALOID software. Teto was created as a prank on 2chan ("oh look, a new VOCALOID by Crypton wwwwwww"), but somehow she became popular on her own.

Kasane Teto has reddish-pink hair, with curly drill-like tails at the sides. Her matching costume has no tie or digital sleeve thingy, having lots of buttons instead. She's also associated with french bread, or as we call it here, roti john, and is usually depicted as younger or more innocent than Miku.

Teto's pitch is pretty high, to  the point that some comment it as "chipmunk-like". The words don't blend well either, but then again, this was a 100% fan-made "VOCALOID".

This one is different from the others too. It was never meant to be associated with Miku when it was created.

BRS is one of the characters drawn by an artist who goes by the nickname of huke. His art style happens to be gothic, by the way.

Anyhoo, ryo, a decent Miku song composer, saw huke's BRS, and thought it resembled Miku (since any twin-tailed character must have been based on Miku >.>). ryo then approached huke with the idea to create a song for BRS using Miku's voice.

huke agreed, and eventually, this music video was released:

The video hit #1 in the VOCALOID weekly ranking instantly, and stayed up there for a few weeks. As of now, its position is simply fluctuating in the ranking itself, among ryo's other creations.

As soon as Miku fans (including me) saw the video, some of them became BRS fans as well. More fanart of BRS started cropping up, some of which depicted Miku AS BRS, while others depicted her as a separate character. Some fanart below:

BRS' theme is black; her coat and pants black, her...undergarments (which happen to be her only pieces of clothing besides the coat and pants) are black, and even her hair is black. Her skin is usually drawn as pale, and she posseses two weapons: a katana which she wields with her right hand, and a rocket launcher which is attached to her left when summoned. Her eyes are blue, and her left eye burns with a blue flame. Her coat also has a star crest, and she resembles Lenalee from D.Gray-man.

Well, that's it then. I suppose you could scour the Internet in search of others like Hagane Miku and Iku Acme, or even the other non-Miku VOCALOID spin-offs. The possibilities are endless.

This will be the last of the VOCALOID-ism series, since this is about it for basic intros. I hope any VOCALOID newbie (which may include you) who read this had a great time doing so.

Felt like watching something, so I watched this. There's about 4 or 5 different sketches in the OVA episode, reaching out to 40 minutes. There were somethings I didn't get, while others were brilliant, but I enjoyed it none-the-less.

Follow the cut~

So, it begins with Minami and her dog, Cherry. Minami's having everyone over and there a few parts with the girls playing with Cherry. Miyuki gives Cherry a cookie, which Cherry hides in the yard. Tsukasa spots Cherry hiding the food, on their way in, though she has to backtrack cause she lost her cell. Following that, We also see Yutaka playing with Cherry, and she starts singing a song with Cherry's paws in her hands. Hiyori points out Yutaka was supposed to be going to the bathroom (LOL), and then she tried to play with Cherry. She tries to get Cherry to play with her, and then bribes with a cookie, which gets her no response so she puts it away. She then asks Cherry to give her a paw, and then gets beat up, LOL. She gives Cherry the cookie. It ends with Minami having dinner and seeing Cherry not eating the food. Minami says some stuff about hoping Cherry gets better. Poor doggy~

The second portion was highly amusing for me, having played so many MMOs. Kagami and Tsukasa came to the MMO Konata's being playing with Nanako (I suppose the same MMO from the Anime). Kagami's a Cleric, and Tsukasa's a Mage. Kagami's got the hang of it, while Tsukasa... well she's hilarious the whole time. Tsukasa doesn't know what she's doing, ends up eating meat to heal when she should be casting a spell, and forgets to set herself into chat mode and tries to type, opening up almost every info panel in the MMO. xD Oh, and the Hare Hare Yukai Pose = Awesome Victory Pose. I want that emotion in MMOs!

Next up, Kagami as Cinderella. Her sisters are going to this "Dance" without her, and then Konata appears in Nagato-Witch attire, claiming to be basically her Fairy Godmother. Konata persuades Kagami after moving her house to go to the ball/dance, and they head in. Konata then has to dress Kagami for the occasion, resulting in many hilarious outfits. First was a Maid, then Shine Maiden, and a couple other cosplays I didn't recognize, then she ended up in Hatsune Miku. That totally made this whole thing worth watching for me. xD Konata's Starling Inferno breaks, so she can't change Kagami out of Miku's outfit. They go to the "dance" (Looks more like a wresting match LOL), with Misao as the Prince, wanting Kagami as her princess. LOL Yuri. Kagami says that she wants to go back, since at midnight the magic will wear off. They head back, and Kagami's house is still in the middle of the street. Unfortunately, it was midnight a tad too soon, leaving them in the middle of the street, and Konata's magic doesn't work anymore. Kagami wants everything back to normal, and Konata says that she has to cast the spell for it to work. She whispers it into Kagami's ear, and when Kagami says the line she wakes up.

Next up, Volleyball with the twins. Tsukasa fells she can't beat her sister, but Misao encourages her to try her best and win against Kagami. Score Score Score, 26-25. Kagami shoots the volleyball, and instead of hitting it back to the other side... it hits Tsukasa right in the face! Owch. While she didn't win, Tsukasa now fells she will one day beat her sister.

Next the girls are lost in the woods for the Hiking club. Konata had forgotten the compass on the bus, and also picked the path that went up the mountain. No reception leads them to not being able to find thier way back. Hunger knaws at them during the sunset colors, and they split some of the food Konata had. It then grows dark and Konata starts telling 100 ghost stories to "summon real monsters". She uses a stick with a curved end at the top everytime to scare the crap out of Tsukasa. Hillarious, but poor Tsukasa~. In the end, Konata's cell rings (Mi mi mirikaru Mikururun~) and they find their way back, lectured by Nanako. They eat, and end sketch.

Lastly, what I suppose is a dream of Konata's. They go to the pet store as a group, and see weird pets. A black cat they say is "magical", Keroro and Tamama frogs. The girls are then turned into frogs and then a Wa wa wa wasuremono~ thing, and Lucky Channel Live Action. The last skit was weird, and whoever subbed the episode left Lucky*Channel unsubbed, plus they screwed up the audio line up to the video so the words didn't match the video at all.

Anyways, it was still fun to watch, and hopfully I can find the Lucky*Channel segment subbed, and properly lined up video and audio.

And... I LOVE VOCALOID2! Miku has such a nice voice for a software created vocalist. And her overall physical design is nice.

I made a quick sketch of her yesterday. She is so pretty and fun to draw.

Miku's songs are very addicting, her voice is very captivating if that's the right word to put it.

Speaking of sketches. Philip (Jupiter's cousin) and one of Leah's co-workers have been developed a little. My Stero series is moving along slowly in development, but moving at all is all that matters.
My other site "Bloom Myself" is nearing completion and may be linked soon when I have spare moments to waste after wasting it with drawing.

The image is like the Haruhi flash, the only difference is that the Haruhi flash follows your cursor and this doesn't.

Whoever created this has some skill, I have played around in flash before and I got so confused...

Okay random, but that's really what's going on now.

I've gotten back into my semi-obsessions, which are, for now, the likes of a certain Japanese SNS fashion-related website, as well as Purime 5 (as usual T___T)

Bad timing, since my examinations are in, oh, TWO FRCKING WEEKS?!

On top of that, I have this project due THIS FRIDAY and I haven't even started properly on it. I've kind of gotten a rough idea for it already, and I think it's pretty feasible, just that uh. Not sure if the teacher grading me will feel the same way about it.

Anyway, I snapped these cosplayers at the Games Convention Asia today... there were other cosplayers for Bleach, Vampire Knight, Evangelion (I think) and others for a cosplay contest. I'm not too sure as I didn't check the program for the 3-day event. They look pretty good too but I was with a friend who was more interested in checking out the new games on show there so yeah... didn't spend too much time taking pictures.

"Egao" - Miku ver. adapted by モコあき (illust. by 稲場冬樹, ヤグチタキシ and シロウ)

This actually isn't an original Miku song, but just an Miku-style adaptation of the song of the same title. The conte art from the original was also replicated, but with a Miku hamster and some other modifications. The original song was released as part of a DVD single "Minna no Uta" (みんなのうた) in July 2003 and was sung by Iwasaki Hiromi. The illustrations are by Shinkai Makoto, who is well known for 5 Centimeters Per Second, Hoshi no Koe and the animation videos for minori works such as Wind: A Breath of Heart, Haru no Ashioto and Ef: A Fairy Tail of the Two. Having played the minori games before, I'm very impressed with the opening videos.

There's definitely something very tranquil about this piece. The art is really nice. The lyrics tell a very warm tale. My only disappointment is that it seems too short.

I also recommend playing both at the same time and seeing the slight differences for yourself. The harmony is quite well done, naturally.

"Pirorin kin no uta" by ピロリロ

Listening to this week's Vocaloid rankings, I got addicted to this song again. The title means "Pylori's song". What's pylori you ask? Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is actually a bacteria that lives inside the stomach and is a major cause of disease of the upper gastrointestinal tract. But do you really care? Probably not. So I don't really have anything else to say. Just listen to it. Again. And again.

Cute song about making yummy fried rice for everyone. Simple art and catchy tune. Fried rice is definitely better with negi. Now I'm really hungry now. Also, I get a Popotan deja vu at the part when Miku sings 'kitto umauma'. This was posted on September 12th.

Oh, and before people start asking why there's a Z at the end, it's actually 乙 (otsu) which is the shortened net-speak form of お疲れ様 (otsukaresama), which means "thanks for watching/listening" in this context.
