This is a transcript of Disney DJ Jeremy Shum’s interview on Teen Magazine! Jeremy Shum is an upcoming new teen pop artist who will be releasing his new album late 2009. He talks about the rumors circulating on the Internet about him, what he’d name his daughter, what car he wants, and a bit about his song-writing and acting.

TM: Hey!

JS: Hey how’s it going my name is Jeremy Shum - thank you very much for having me on the show!

TM: You seem to be the upcoming starlet of 2009!

JS: Yeah it's absolutely fantastic. People are saying - the boy band and harmonies of the 90s are back - I sure hope it is...

TM: You seem to be the new N’Sync or Backstreet Boy!

JS: That's exactly right - I just don't know whether I can keep it up with the good Christian kid image... I hope the girls find the bad boy Christian image just as adorable.

TM: Is it true that you’ve been asked to do a role on High School Musical 4?

JS: Well you know - an umm musical is definitely not out of the question - but I’m gonna say there's nothing concrete yet.

TM: So as a massive celebrity you must have so many friends?

JS: Not really. I actually don’t have many friends. I keep my friends to a small group of people who tour around with me, but I am very close with them. I’ve always been like this because I was always larger-than-life and it requires a certain personality to hang with me.

TM: You’re so big now!

JS: Yeah, it’s absolutely fantastic, and I just want to say praise God for that. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for God – Jesus “woxs”! - He’s the reason why I do what I do.

TM: It must feel amazing to be where you are

JS: You know what? I treasure every moment and I think it’s exactly what I was born to do.

TM: You’re being dubbed the next teen pop starlet – how does that feel?

JS: It’s really fantastic. I absolutely love my young fans, and I wouldn’t trade the world for where I am. I try to be a really good role model, but I’m pretty wild, so it’s all about a good balance.

TM: We’ve heard some of the leaked MySpace songs, they are pretty interesting!

JS: Well, I didn’t originally intend on releasing them on the Internet, and did it for a bit of fun. But then a few of them were leaked, and they became really popular. They have the same bad-boy teenager pop/rock feel to the stuff on my albums, but yeah they’re mostly funny covers of popular Disney songs. It’s cool to put smiles on people’s faces.

TM: Is it hard to write meaningful songs, baring your soul to the world?

JS: Yeah, but sometimes it is so much easier to express stuff through your music. I always keep a strong guard up because of the business that I am in, and think about what I say before I let it come out, because you don’t want something you say to be picked apart, and prodded at. If I put something into my music, it’s obviously from personal experience, but I make sure it’s something I want people to know about, and something they’d want to know about – and although may be hard at times, it is very freeing.

TM: What would you say your style is like?

JS: Whereas some other artists are about “if it happens, it happens”, I’m a lot more “we gotta go here, we gotta do that”. I’d call my style a lot more directive and entrepreneurial.

TM: What lessons do you think you have learned from watching other pop stars your age in the business?

JS: I think I am happy with who I am. I don’t know if this is as a result of seeing other people in the industry, but in life, it’s often hard to stay true to yourself, because there is so much distraction and craziness around you.

TM: What about all these rumors of a sex tape with Miley Cyrus and all those media stories?

JS: Honestly, I don’t listen to it. I don’t read about it. I don’t go on gossip websites and I don’t read the magazines. I don’t let that stuff enter into my life. I do feel sorry for the writers, and I wish the best for them, but it’s not of my concern. I don’t know. Maybe they enjoy it. Maybe they like that attention.

TM: Who is your dream duet?

JS: You know what? Probably a few of the nicer people from the Disney Channel. I don’t want someone to read it and be like “Oh my God, I would never do a song with him. Who does he think he is?” Smart cookie here.

TM: What’s the last thing you’ve done to simplify your life?

JS: Getting a MacBook Pro. It’s my mini Jeremy, because it’s my life, and it’s got all of my important stuff on it.

TM: What kind of car do you want?

JS: Well, I want a car that’s bigger than a two-seater; I usually prefer bigger cars: family cars.

TM: If you had a daughter, what would you name her?

JS: I’m thinking Brittany. Brittany Shum sounds like an awesome name!

TM: What’s the most unusual place you’ve written a song?

JS: Whilst on tour, on my Blackberry. Not a whole song, but just bits and pieces. When I get ideas for songs, I usually don’t want to forget it, so if I don’t have pen and paper, I will get on the notepad on my Blackberry. I then try to read it later on although it makes no sense… (Laughs).

TM: What is recording your latest album like?

JS: It’s actually kind of complicated working with different producers, because each one wants something completely different – so you constantly have to change your mind set on it all. However, it is always fun, amazing, and the experience is always mind-blowing, and you get to work with some extremely fantastic people.

TM: And shooting the film clip?

JS: It was insane! I got there and the hair and makeup people immediately started to work on me. I got all dressed up, and was on set and screamed, “Oh my God! I can’t believe this is my first music video!”. It was such a thrill. All eyes were on me and it was just so much fun.

TM: What do you have to bring around with you on tour?

JS: I prefer to go on tour with some of my closer family, and one of my BFF’s. I don’t carry a phone around, but I usually bring along my MacBook Pro. Oh, and my perfume.

TM: Do you have a favorite perfume?

JS: Yeah, I love Showtime by Kylie Minogue. It gets me really prepared for working with teen girls (laughs).

TM: Is there any other beauty product that you couldn’t live without?

JS: Yeah, I always need mascara.

TM: Do you Google yourself?

JS: I try not to because there are a lot of fans out there and I love them all for supporting me, but there are just as many haters. People try to say mean things, and I try not to look at it because they try to tear you down. It’s better if you stay away from it all!

TM: What qualities do you look for in a girl?

JS: I basically go for Christian girls. I also look for somebody who is loyal, and allows trust to rule our relationship. My type of girl is the sort who likes emotional touchy-feely guys.

TM: Have you ever done anything crazy to get a girl’s attention?

JS: Yeah. If there’s a hot girl around, I go all klutz. I go into this really sappy mode, all red and everything, whilst trying unsuccessfully not to stare at her.

TM: Do you have a message for your fans?

JS: I just want to say thank you for being there because people can be really mean. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so much and stuck up for me. I truly thank you for being there for me, and really appreciate it so much that people really care about me.

TM: What’s it like travelling the world?

JS: It’s amazing. I love shopping, and it’s the one thing you get to do when travelling the world!

TM: Who are your music idols?

JS: Probably Hilary Duff. She’s one of the market leaders in the inspirational bubblegum teen pop scene, and was a massive star when I was young.

TM: The teen pop scene has really grown in recent years. Do you think it’s too commercial?

JS: You know what? I think teen pop is commercial, but I don’t have any issues with that. At the end of the day, what is produced is what is popular and demanded by fans, and the reason for the success of teen pop music is lots of people love it and buy it. There’s the good and bad side, but the positive side to this is that good role models can positively influence young people.
