The Tree House Detectives

If we do not understand this term fully then a little help from children is in order.

I watch the NASA channel a lot and they have a kids program that I have a great deal of respect for. The Tree House Detectives, is a program aimed at Elementary to Junior High Youth to inspire learning and science development. I have found a wealth of important principals that I need for problem solving.

Here is the NASA website for the program

http://scifiles.larc.nasa.gov/

Here is a explanation of it well done at Science Buddies

http://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentoring/project_scientific_method.shtml

So you got your HHO cell making gas now how can you make it more efficient.

What is it's efficiency?

What does research tell me about the result?

What part do I change?

How does it compare to Michael Faraday?

What is taking place chemically for what my result is?

Did I write down the variables and outcome of this experiment?

Do I need to take a continuing educations class in Physics on Electrical Engineering?

I think this method does in no way quench creativity or inspiration. I wish only for us all to be successful and when the breakthrough comes we can know exactly how it happened and not lose what has been gained.

I have a while to go before I feel that I have experimental data to offer for review, but I hope that I will. This type of work is exciteting and promising but it needs credibility in the data. I like it when the experimenter talks out what they have went thought and describes the results. A standard benchmark to compare results with enough information to duplicate the experiment. That is called "peer review". Laboratory Instrument are so rarely used because of budget constraints. There are ways of making measurements or getting in contact with a high school chemistry teacher who might even want to invole there class. A key that unlocks the door you have been struggling with might only be kept by someone else.

We need to be standing on the shoulders of giants not reinventing the wheel each time. This blog is for me but I hope it encourage you too.

Since I am broad-minded enough to link to the Huffington Post even though I find Arianna's site totally loathsome (my site is "antiarianna.wordpress" you know), I would just encourage you to try a little experiment to see what censorship is all about.

Pretend you are a Republican (it's the Dems who need to know this) and try to make some anti-Obama comments over at Huff. See if they get posted.

If you don't know how to get inside the character, cannot find the role of an authentic "Obamessiah" critic, use some of mine.

I'd be interested to hear how you fare. I was totally censored once Obama got the Dem ticket.

"Never is heard a discouraging word" -- over there -- apparently their guy cannot take the heat. Poor Baby.

Comentariu personal : Nu de mult am vazut intr-un documentar, "The monster of the Milky Way" parca, ce s-ar intampla daca o persoana ar fi atrasa intr-o gaura neagra :D .

AWR is build-in to Oracle database kernel and does not require any configuration. It is running immediately after you create your database. Even if you do not license it, it is running and consuming resources to gather system statistics once per hour to its internal repository. ADDM as one of the intelligent self-tuning utilities also could be support by using AWR.

STATSPACK (still live in oracle 11g) requires you manually do some configuration like scheduling its STATSPACK.SNAP as a job in order to automate statistic gathering.

How to discover the internal structures of AWR?

Well, AWR actually uses several Oracle internal tables (the families of WRM$_* and WRH$_* tables) to store the collected statistics, which are stored under the SYS schema in the SYSAUX tablespace. Alternatively, you can access those statistics from the dba_hist_* views by joining into the dba_hist_snapshot view (the main anchor for the AWR history views), or by querying some specified V$ views such like V$SYSSTAT or V$SYS_TIME_MODEL with different query purposes.
· Metadata Tables (WRM$_*):

These relational tables are used to control, process, and describe the Workload Repository tables. For example, Oracle uses the metadata tables to determine when to perform snapshots, and what to capture to disk.

These relational tables store important historical statistical information about the database in the form of periodic snapshots. Each snapshot is a capture of the in-memory database statistics data (X$) at a certain point in time.

The AWR stores cumulative values available through dynamic performance views like V$SYSSTAT. Instance restart resets these cumulative values in V$ memory views. The scripts outputs a long list of snapshots taken automatically every 60 minutes over a period of one week. A default frequency of taking snapshots and snapshot retention period are set at installation of the system. It is possible to adjust the interval, retention, and captured top SQL of snapshot generation. A parameter INTERVAL determines how often the snapshots are automatically taken. A parameter RETENTION determines how long the snapshots are stored in the workload repository. A parameter TOPNSQL setting affects the number of Top SQL to flush for each SQL criteria (Elapsed Time, CPU Time, Parse Calls, Shareable Memory, and Version Count). For example, the following execution of the procedure sets a retention period to 43200 minutes (30 days), the interval between each snapshot to 30 minutes, and the number of Top SQL to flush for each SQL criteria to 100. If NULL is specified, the existing value is preserved.

I was going to blog about happiness since that's what we've been discussing in Psych 10, but I'm not in the mood seeing as I just found out I failed my last midterm. Insert failure rant.

I also fell asleep during the psychology research experiment I was participating in. Hope I didn't ruin the researcher's results.

At least it's Friday and it's my last day at the radiology internship. I'm glad that it's over. I did learn quite a bit though, when I think about it. I learned how hospital exam scheduling works and just administration side of things. Also learned that I definitely don't want to work on this end of the health field. I don't think I can deal with desk job. I don't know how my mom does it, 9-5 everyday in a (messy) cubicle. I would go insane.

I was thinking about alternative jobs that other day, upon realizing that I can't stand a desk job, and I couldn't really think of anything I'd be interested in/qualified for besides physician/nurse. I mean, I definitely enjoy reading things about design, fashion, and cosmetics, but I don't see a career in that. I'm a psychobio major who doesn't like writing. Maybe I'll fulfill my father's dream of my becoming some kind of painter/potter/glassblower and then he'll manage my shop for me. Yeah, psychobio doesn't quite apply to that either.

My thumb is callused from playing Soul Caliber 4.

Hello:

The title of this post is my philosophy about 'behavior.' Before I was a nurse I studied Psychology, and hold a Bachelor's Degree in that subject. Over the twelve years I worked in this field I developed this philosophy, and 98% of the time it turned out to be right on target.

Don't take my word for it, try it out for yourself. Do a tiny experiment: When you think someone is lying to you, or being dishonest in some other manner, confront them! Pay close attention to the degree of hostility with which they respond. It usually matches pretty closely with how close you are to the truth, i.e., real close results in a really hostile response, kind of like the responses I have gotten to my book, and I not only got close to the truth, I published pictures and documents of it! :)

Regards,

In data de 10 septembrie, supranumita si “ziua butonului rosu”, acceleratorul Large Hadron Collider ar putea crea gauri minuscule in spatiu, care sa permita o forta limitata de calatorie in spatiu.

Avi gave a very good and broad colloquium on 2+ topics: 21 cm cosmology, super massive black holes,

Avi gave a very good and broad colloquium on 2+ topics: 21 cm cosmology, super massive black holes, many other things. He was allotted an hour, went over. That was fine, he had many interesting things to talk about. Although Avi is a theorist, much of his talk concerned experiments, or predictions for experiments, which I found very interesting. To sum up, I liked the talk.

21 cm cosmology

The main thrust of this seemed to be that you can observe the reionization of the universes hydrogen at different times in the past by looking at different red-shifed 21 cm photons. He liked it to taking a slice of swiss cheese, depending on your slice (what $latex \lambda$ you observe), you will see a different amount of the universe ionized. Here is a figure:

[caption id="attachment_7" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="slices image"][/caption]

We are far off the right side of the image. I'm not sure I liked the swiss cheese analogy too much, you couldn't take it very far. I think all that he meant was that if you slice the cheese, the hole are different for each slice. Similarly, if you took at a slice of the universe (say $latex \lambda_1$) the amount of the universe that has been reionized will be different than the amount in a different slice (at say, $latex \lambda_2$).

However, if you take the analogy a little bit further, the cheese holes open and close. This doesn't happen in the universe. Once a region has been re-ionized, it stays re-ionized. It is more like taking slices of a group of stalagmites, starting at the top and moving toward the ground. Or, drawing from a recent experience of mine, like slicing the Badlands from the top toward the bottom in an area that ends in a trough rather than the plains. But, the swiss cheese is a little more common, and easy to recognize. You just can't take it too far.

He covered so much material, I don't remember it all in this topic that I don't remember it all!

Super Massive Black Holes

The idea is to image the largest black hole on the night sky. That is the one at the core of the Milky Way. It may not be the closest, but because of it's great mass, it subtends that largest angle on the sky. And when I say largest angle, I mean 50 micro radians (a tiny amount). That's like looking at a pea at 200 meters!

We won't be able to actually see the black hole, but we can see it's shadow. It will be blocking the hot accretion disk behind the hole. Avi's part of that project was to predict what it might look like, depending on various models of the accretion disk, the mass of the black hole and general relativity. That is to say his job was to make some pretty pictures. He showed us those, and they were pretty.

Questions

I came up with a couple of questions.

how did the last scattering surface evolve?
In the end I decided not to ask this question. I asked a couple of my fellow students and they were able to clear it up some for me. In the formulating of that question I realized I was confused about the cosmic dark age. That is the topic that Avi was talking about in the first section.

what angle are we looking at the black hole in the pretty pictures you showed?
I did ask this one, and Avi took us back and explained more about that. Also about how the pictures vary with more than just the angle we see the object at: the model for the accretion disk too. They have produced a library of such images and movies.

At the end of the talk there was a general Q&A time, then a students only Q&A time. I liked the student only Q&A time because I didn't feel quite as embarrassed to ask my simple question. Also the questions from the other students were good. Eric asked about if the 21 cm observations could help distinguish between models for the first stars that had dark matter as their power source (called Dark Stars). Avi explained that he didn't work on that, but suspected that they could. Dark Stars are a very new idea.

Half life'çılar bilirler, Black Mesa Research Facility'deki dünyanın neredeyse sonunu getiren, The Anomalous Materials Analysis Test'ini :) Nostalji olsun diye bu müthiş deneyimi arada bir izliyorum youtube'dan.

What makes good people do bad things? How can moral people be seduced to act immorally? Where is the line separating good from evil, and who is in danger of crossing it? Renow-ned social psychologist Philip Zimbardo has the answers, and in The Lucifer Effect he explains how---and the myriad reasons why---we are all susceptible to the lure of "the dark side." Drawing on examples from history as well as his own trailblazing research, Zimbardo details how situational forces and group dynamics can work in concert to make monsters out of decent men and women. Zimbardo, professor emeritus of psychology at Stanford University, is perhaps best known as the creator of the Stanford Prison Experiment. For the first time, he tells the full story of this landmark study, in which a group of college-student volunteers was randomly divided into "guards" and "inmates" and then placed in a mock prison environment. Within a week the study was abandoned, as ordinary college students were transformed into either brutal, sadistic guards or emotionally broken prisoners. This event took place October 4, 2007 at Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA «

(Quelle: http://www.wissenschaft.de/)

(Quelle: http://de.wikipedia.org/)

Man mag darüber denken was man will.

Here is an ad for Proactive on Tv right now. That stuff did work very well the first time around.

Here is an ad for Proactive on Tv right now. That stuff did work very well the first time around. Maybe if I am so self-conscious about my appearance I should do some some things like starting to use it again. It did even improve the aspect of my skin where scars have been left by acne. I bought some makeup a few days ago. I was feeling so bad about it; to spend money on myself like that... I few negative things were running in my mind: that it would serve nothing anyway to put makeup on, that I was a lost cause, that I don't go out because I am too chicken, that anyway who would actually want to see me, that I looked awfully tired and should avoid being in public. Anyway, I have been more often then not since, putting some mascara, eyeliner and a gloss even if I stay home. I have also started to take the time to smile at myself in the bathroom mirror. It kind of creep me out, but I think it's actually good for myself to do it.

I started to put some stuff on paper so I can reflect on what I wish. Apart from writing it down so i can see it, I am trying to keep my mind empty. I have been thinking way too much and it has made me very sad and depressed because I am not getting answers that are right now and crustal clear. I know better than this: I know I need to be patient. It is just very difficult to fight over anxiety when it has become a daily habit.

Here are some of the things I wrote down last night: I want to create, have fun, explore my senses, experiment, remember and transmit, design, see people, share, collaborate, read, learn, dress up, express, write books, illustrate books, altered books, multiverse, love, rest, meditate, trance, craft, dance, music, djembe, yoga, tai-chi, listen, poets, message, intuition, vibrant, flow, receptive to the moment, spirit, total presence, powerful, resonate, mindfulness, deep, dare, whole, unique, consciousness, life force, kundalini, performance art, videoclip, art for art sake, sublimate, divine, sensuality, ecstasy, charisma, adventures, beauty, lovers, bliss, freedom, smile, cosmic, healing, I grow, I am loved, journaling, integrity, potential, key, journey, seduce, mirror, simplicity, awake, joy, delightful, temple, movement, believe, truth, imagination, dynamic, challenge.
