Hacía años que no conseguía engancharme a una serie anime con tanto ímpetu, quizá desde los tiempos de 'Bola de Dragón' y 'Rurouni Kenshin'... que ya ha llovido desde entonces.

Esta serie se llama 'Denno Coil' y por recomendación de mi amigo Salva y gracias al maravilloso trabajo y la calidad ofrecida en las descargas de la serie en Deviants Fansub, he conseguido enamorarme, tras muchos años de sequía, una vez más del género.

La serie son 26 capítulos a una calidad HD de 720p en archivos mp4, toda una gozada para los amantes de la alta definición que no queremos ver ni un pixel cuando miramos un vídeo.

En 'Denno Coil' nos trasladamos al año 2026, once años después de la introducción de la conexión permanente a Internet mediante gafas de realidad aumentada y viseras. Yūko Okonogi se mueve con su familia a la ciudad de Daikoku, el centro tecnológico de los nuevos mundos semi-virtuales. Yūko se une a  la "agencia de investigación" de su abuela, formada por niños equipados con herramientas virtuales y metabugs. La historia se torna interesante desde el primer capítulos, donde vemos cómo la realidad virtual visible a través de las gafas esconde un entramado de sucesos y acontecimientos oscuros que nos llevarán a lo más profundo de El Otro Lado.

Para hacerse una idea, es algo así como 'Matrix', 'Akira' o 'Ghost in the Shell' con niños, más light, donde el aspecto informático está siempre muy presente. La encuadraría en el género de la ciencia ficción o el cyberpunk.

La verdad es que me ha encantado ver esta serie con semejante calidad y con tan buen sabor de boca tras ver el último de los episodios, pues sólo consta de una temporada y, hasta donde yo sé, no hay previsión de que haya más.

Sin duda una serie más que recomendable ahora que llega el verano y el tiempo libre se hace más presente en nuestros días y no tenemos ganas de salir con la calor.

Secrets emerge from hidden passage ways, from the past, from the dreams and the dead.

We learn that some of the legends told are true, one of these is the existence of Michiko, a girl who went into an illegal gateway to search her lost cyber-pet. We also learn more about the mysterious number 4423.

A freaky episode.

This series reminds me sometimes Tonari no Totoro by Miyazaki: heroes are 10 year girls (and boys), the character design is quite the same, the only places safe from Satchii (the cyber anti virus which can't make the difference between illegals and cyber-creation) are old temples, most of the scene takes place in traditional japanese houses or temples, and finally new little characters made their appearance in this 2nd episode and they definitely match with Miyazaki's world.

I explain: in this near future a new technology thanks to special glasses allows people to see a second world filled into ours: a cyberworld. A world we can only see with these glasses, and a world we can influence with cyber technology. But like every good technology, it may be hacked, this world is full of viruses and unauthorised cyber-creatures called "illegals". In this first episode the cyber-dog Densuke will purchase a cyber-creature into a cyber-reality, and our hero will try to bring him back.

Quite complicated and a lot of new words in this first episode but we know as much as Yuko and Kyoko who just arrived into the city to live with their grand mother.

Denno Coil. Get ready to be transported into the world of virtual pets. But unlike the Tamagochi era on earth, these pets do not live on the screen of mini toys. Rather, like the name of the first ep states - The Children With Glasses, these kids can see the virtual world through special glasses.

In the first episode we get a glimpse of what the whole thing is about. Like, pets and them entering a different place. It made me quite lost in the sense that, I felt that that world was a weird place and i haven't got a clue as to how it works. Technology, humans. And are children the only ones who can see those pets? I doubt it right?

From the first ep I cannot seem to see where this anime is going. As in, the direction as to which it is headed.

The animation is clean and nice. Kinda reminds me of Studio Ghibli's characters. The pets are funny, especially the ojisan(refer to 2nd image). I don't really understand why the ratings for this anime is so good because I personally felt it to be mediocre only. But I guess once can't really tell much from the first ep.

Anyway, unlike Pokemon and Digimon, while this anime involves weird pets and creatures as well as kids, that is probably as far as the similarities go. It does not seem to be a childish anime and I am glad of that fact. However, it does not seem to be the type of anime that I would like. _(^.^)_ sorry to the fans of this anime.

Anyways, what I really wanted to talk about, was that, although it's gonna take place in March near the time for Sakura-con (which I shall hopefully attend), the winner have seemed to have been leaked.. the the most convenient place. Anime News Network (can you believe it?). The winner for movies is (supposedly) Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0: You are not alone. which I am aching to see. TV series, are Dennou Coil and Tengen Toppa. I'm starting to think that I am missing out on something, after my decisive move to stop watching Denno Coil and not watch TTGL because it was licensed. Neon Genesis Evangelion is coming out in Spring though, and I am dying to see it, as well as Kara no Kyoukai (which I think should have been more impressive) which I haven't seen.

Denno Coil menceritakan tentang Yuko, seorang perempuan yang baru saja tiba di kota Daikoku bersama dengan adiknya dan anjing. Mungkin ini terdengar seperti premise cerita biasa kalau saja setting tempatnya tidak berada di masa depan dimana tamagotchi bukan lagi berupa gadget kecil yang bergambar hitam putih melainkan hewan dengan ukuran seperti asli dan hanya bisa dilihat dengan kacamata yang berfungsi juga sebagai komputer. Dengan setting seperti ini, maka sudah sepantasnya saya sedikit kebingungan di awal - awal episode ini. Namun setelah 1/2 episode, alur ceritanya mulai agak sedikit jelas dan semakin menarik.

Tema seperti ini mungkin bukan hal yang baru di dalam anime. Sekilas, anime ini mengingatkan saya dengan Serial Experiment Lain namun tanpa ada kritik sosial dan dengan tone yang lebih ceria. Walaupun mungkin tidak akan sekompleks SeLain, namun saya berharap anime ini bisa membawakan tema yang lebih "dalam" daripada anime - anime sejenis. Secara garis besar, episode 1 ini sudah cukup bagi saya untuk menyaksikan kembali episode - episode yang lain.

Yeah, well I'm pretty dense. Denno Coil has been pretty neat so far animation wise, but I've been kind of wondering where the focus is in each episode story wise. Just realized that the focus is given at the beginning of each episode where Yuuko states some kind of net rumor, tidbit of information from the newpaper or something. This really puts this into focus now. I really NEED to pay attention more when I watch these kinds of shows. I'm on episode 6 and I just realized this... Can't wait to see how things come together now.

The last two episodes are out. I'm downloading it at the moment.  May or May NOT watch this sometime soon, depending on my mood.

The summer holidays are officially over and the kiddies begin a new life as secondary school students. The puzzling thing is that their school is on the top floor of a building block!

I'm sure you can think of many many practical reasons why schools shouldn't be built there as well, but it turns out that this new secondary school takes in pupils from all around the area - including those from the first area!

Aside from these new developments, I found this episode MORE than a little painful to watch. Suddenly it's not just a children's game anymore (especially for Isako in more ways than one), and if you liked Nekome before this... let's just say you might not think of him in the same way again >_<

The most chilling revelation of the series (so far) involving Isako occurs towards the end of the episode, and we are again left with a cliff hanger mid-action.
