PCs are known for slowing down, having problems, becoming real dogs. A common solution among my kids circle of friends and acquaintances is to reformat and re-install the OS. (Oh, that's right, PCs don't have an OS, that's reserved for REAL machines like Linux and Mac.) Temporary relief can be achieved by defragging the hard drive, clearing the browser cache, and other quick fixes.

Macs, however, a bullet proof, a veritible computer-carnation of Super Man. They don't need to be speeded up, defragged, or have any other remedial work done. But, in case they do, here is a list of 20 things you can do to speed up your Mac.

On DeFRaG World cup 2008 can be registered teams & solo players separately, that means each player can play only in one team like vq3 or cpm player and also single vq3, single cpm or both single vq3 and single cpm. DFWC 2008 will be only for registered users, if you are not you can make it on registration page here. For playing it is only allowed to use newest version of Quake 3 Defrag 1.91.12.

Stichwort "Pro-Gaming in Defrag".

Hier ein Auszug aus von den Bugfixes der neuen Version;
- rudimentary protection against demo editing

Schnell!

Danke für das spontane Interview!

JKDefrag - An Intelligent Defragmenter for Windows

Whenever we talk about slow system performance, its almost certain that the first advice we will get

Whenever we talk about slow system performance, its almost certain that the first advice we will get is to defragment the hard disk drive. Lets understand what does it mean before we actually move on to JKDefrag.

Fragmentation:

During the daily usage we create and delete lot of files, When you create a new file OS tries to find the free space from the beginning of the disk and allocate the free space to files. This might lead to file being divided into multiple parts and these parts will be places in different areas.

Say you have a blank hard disk and you create 3 files i.e. file1 (10MB), file2 (5MB) and file3(20MB), lets assume they are organized serially on hard disk one after another.

|-------------|---------|--------------------|
| file1 | file2 | file3 |
| (10MB) | (5MB) | (20MB) |
|-------------|---------|--------------------|

Now you delete file2 and create file4 which is of size 25MB. When you create file4 OS will try to find the free space from the beginning of the hard disk, in our case it will find that 5MB space is free after file1 (released by deletion of file2 ) so it will divide file4 into two parts, first part of 5 MB will go between file1 and file2 and second part of 20MB will go after file3.

|-------------|---------|--------------------|--------------------|
| file1 | file4A | file3 | file4B |
| (10MB) | (5MB) | (20MB) | (20MB) |
|-------------|---------|--------------------|--------------------|

As shown in above table file 4 is divided into two parts and they are not continues this is what is called as fragmentation, this is just an example but in real life files can be divided into thousands of parts distributed all over the hard disk. When user wants to access this file OS need to find all the parts, Hard disk head needs to move to all over the hard disk and that's what slows down the file access significantly.

Defragmenter tools will help you rearrange the files so that they are all continues. In our example a defragmenter may push file 3 further and allocate continues 25MB space for file4 between file1 and file2. Or it can move file1 and file2 one after another and allocate continues 25MB space for file4 after file3.

JKDefrag:

Even though all Windows versions have in-build defragmenter and it works quite well, it is not flexible. It has a fixed algorithm and it works on the whole hard disk. I wanted a defragmenter which is little more flexible and preferable GPL. JKDefrag meets all my requirements.

However, defragmenter is a tool that can change the whole data on your hard disk so you need to be very sure about what you are doing and tools you are using are reliable otherwise you might loose all your data. So before using it, I tried to understand whether they know what they are doing and I was highly satisfied with the information on there web page.

I like this tools for following main reasons:

JKDefrag uses standard defragmentation APIs provided by Microsoft so JKDefrag does not access the hard disk directly but through a well defined interface provided by the Microsoft itself.

JKDefrag is not only defragmenter but its also an optimizer. JKDefrag divides hard disk in three different areas i.e. Directories, Files and Space Hogs. Directories are placed in the beginning of the hard disk followed by regular files and finally Huge files (Space Hogs) which are not used frequently are placed towards end of the disk. This will ensure that frequently used files are towards the beginning of the disk . This arrangement makes file access much faster. It also keeps some free space in each area so that when new file is added it has the space in proper zone.

JKDefrag provides different modes, Generally you will use the full time consuming mode first time and then use the fast mode everyday to defragment new data

JKDefrag allows to sort the files based on name, size, access time etc

JKDefrag allows to defragment a single file or directory or allows you to exclude set of files and directories as well

JKDefrag comes with command line, GUI And Screen Saver version

JKDefrag does not need any installation or setup, just download the binaries and use it

JKDefrag can defragment Floppy disk, USB Drives

JKDefrag works for Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista/2008/X64

It's free and open source.

Support is available through forum

Overall its a very capable tool. Please visit the website and read all the information before using the tool.

The current political season has left me spent. Add to that our declining business, shaky economy an

The current political season has left me spent. Add to that our declining business, shaky economy and my girls-gone-wild 18 year old on the Left Coast, and I can honestly say there were times in the last month when I really and truly wanted to run away from home. You know, jump into the car and head south or west and drive until I hit an ocean. Before the Republican Convention, I had toyed with the idea of Alaska, but I'm now thinking that our last frontier is not far enough away. (It's not Sarah Palin, really...)

Politics is starting to irk me. The barrage of television advertising in particular has gone from the Annoying Level to the Sickening Level. I can't even find "Forensics Files" or "American Justice" without having to be subjected to continual mudslinging. I tried to find a weather forecast as Hurricane Ike's eye ended up right over my house, but all I had to channel surf through commentaries. (For those who really want to know, Ike came, it rained like a monsoon for a day and a half.)

I write on another (couple of) forums, and petty political sniping is all I see there. What used to be interesting reading (I especially like reading others' views) has become nothing less than a free-for-all. Emotions are running high.

People are now yelling at each other when they're not trying to insert "gotcha" moments, you know, something like pigs in lipstick. What sows wear on their lips not important to me; for Petey's sake, I seldom wear lipstick myself, and don't recommend it for any mammal. Besides, there are far more serious issues than comparing people to animals in various forms of make up. For all of the fray, for all of the noise, no one is being heard. In the end, though, it's all garbage.

Friday, I decided to take a "mostly" sabbatical from garbage. I say "mostly" because I managed to come here and rant about my daughter, and I managed to go over there and rant about the stupid level that the political process has now sunk to. I refused to get sucked into any ideological commenting, which was fine by me. I also refused to watch TV, and only looked briefly for hurricane reports.

So what did I do?

Here's one thing I did:

I made jewelry. Lots of it. I just started experimenting with it a couple of weeks ago, and now find myself inexplicably drawn to bead shows and craft shops. I found these really cute little charms, and voila! the "Be Here Now" bracelet was born.

"Be Here Now." I remember that mantra from the early '70s. Even though there was a war going on, things seemed tranquil compared to today. There was plenty of excitement, but no sniping.

I also canned a lot of tomatoes and corn. Buying a pressure canner was the best investment I could have made. We can't eat the tomatoes fast enough, and I'm going to love opening a jar in December.

This weekend, I also started Chapter 13 of my novel. Coincidentally, Chapter 13 is when my main character gets the worst of her bad news. Her life plummets from a pleasant complacency to the gates of Hell, before taking a turn toward normal. I toyed with the idea of skipping right over Chapter 13, you know like some hotels do with the 13th floor. But serendipity intervened, and I'm not arguing with that kind of Karma.

I knocked off a couple of restaurant reviews I had on the back burner as well. Remembering what I had to eat during my vacation put me back into a California kind of mood.

I also took some time to read. Yes, read a book. Although, I have to say I am reading books written by our major political candidates, but I figured doing so would enlighten me more than watching TV would.

And finally, I finished cleaning out Ms. MiniD's room. I took all of the photos stuck onto the walls and boxed them up with her knickknacks and doo-dads and put everything in the attic. I plan on painting the room, in a color she will no doubt hate. She had admonished me NOT to do that before she left, but seeing that her behavior has led to some consternation on my part, I found that I no longer gave a damn what she thought. It was somewhat freeing, even though I found evidence that in addition to drinking and having sex, she was also smoking weed.

*sigh*

There's garbage everywhere, isn't there?

By the way, if any of you see a gray Prius speeding south or west, please do not stop it.

But I like the idea of how alternative he would like the site. He was kind enough to sketch out some of his own ideas as to what he'd like on it. Very punky colors, Black background, hot pink and lime green and white detailing, with some cursive-sanserif font mixes. (Roy, Max).

A Brown Soun, Inc. - (hemptonespeakers.com, hemphop.com, abrown.com, tonetubby.com ) The nice guys at A Brown would like to update their four websites and do some print projects: ads and business cards. Many unique conflicts arise here. (Ed, Ana).

Blue Lotus Tattoo - Potential client. I should talk to Christine this coming thursday. (Ed, Ana).

Ridiculousity.Net - Finished, currently updated by Max. Did some graphics work, mainly the graphics.

Defragmybrain - always an ongoing project to better my portfolio website. This one is all very dependant on my taste, and i'm trying to keep it as clean and minimal as possible. A few problems with the new set up. You'll hear about it soon.

Wow, this product is quite a treat! Glary utilities is an all-in-one package containing about 20 file, system, and security tools that are all pretty darn useful. Best of, Glary is free. My test drive of the product has propelled it to one of the top applications in my toolkit.

You can download the free Glary Utilities here.

Glary provides the following tools:

Clean Up & Repair

Disk Cleaner - Removes junk data from your disks and recovers disk space

Registry Cleaner - Scans and cleans up your registry to improve your system's performance

Uninstall Manager - Uninstalls programs completely that you don't need any more

Optimize & Improve

Startup Manager - Manages programs which run automatically on start up

Memory Optimizer - Monitors and optimizes free memory in the background

Context Menu Manager - Manages the context-menu entries for files/folders

Privacy & Security

Tracks Eraser -Erases all the traces, evidences, cookies, internet history and more

File Shredder - Erases files permanently so that no one can recover them

File Undelete - Quick and effective way to retrieve accidentally deleted files

File Encrypter and Decrypter - Protects your files from unauthorized access and use

Files & Folders

Disk Analysis - Shows you the disk space usage of your files and folders

Duplicate Files Finder - Searches for space-wasting and error producing duplicate files

Empty Folders Finder - Finds and removes empty folders in your windows

File Splitter and Joiner - Splits large files into smaller manageable files, and then rejoin them

System Tools

Process Manager - Monitors programs that run on your PC and stop spyware and Trojans

Internet Explorer Assistant - Manages Internet Explorer Add-ons and restores hijacked settings

Windows Standard Tools -Provides direct access to the useful windows default functions.

When you first start Glary, you are taken to an interface that contains 6 of the more common tools. You can include or exclude any of the tests here, but I have not found a way to customize this list if it's even possible at all. One click will run the selected tests and present you with a summary of results. You can get specific details for anything uncovered before you decide to fix the problem. (I would not consider the Spyware Removal much use since the application engine is not routinely updated. Instead, I suggest using Spybot and Windows Defender as your spyware protection scheme.)

This screen is a good first step in discovering and addresses any of the low hanging fruit that may slow your system down. The heart of Glary Utilities lies in the "Modules" tab:

I've used many of Glary's modules so far and am very impressed. Selecting any of the modules will launch that application separately from the Glary interface. This allows you to open and run multiple utilities at once. Think of Glary as a portal for the 20 most useful utilities you need to maintain your PC.

One very nice feature is the "Windows Standard Tools" module. This module opens up the following Windows tools:CheckDisk, Disk Defragmenter, System Restore, System File Checker, and a Backup program.

To me, this is a very convenient collection of tools that I routinely use in my personal maintenance procedures. The System File Checker will examine your system files and compare them to known good versions and identify anything that may have been changed for the worse.

Glary Utilities doesn't change the world with exciting new tools and concepts, but it packages up some of the most useful utilities into one clean, efficient, and FREE, download.

I highly recommend Glary Utilities!

To paraphrase Shakespeare “To defrag or not to defrag; that is the question”. You wouldn’t think that defragging a Hard Drive would be an issue which is open to much debate; but it is.

Fragmentation is caused by creating and deleting files and folders, installing new software, and downloading files from the Internet. When you delete files or folders, the first available empty spaces on the Hard Drive are filled in randomly when you create new files and folders, as you do when you save pics from your camera, install software, save emails, or create documents.

A fairly common point of view holds that defragging a Hard Drive is pointless and provides no measurable increase in system performance.

One example of this type of thinking taken from a forum I visit frequently is as follows: “Disk cleanup is pretty useless, and defragging should only really be done if you recently moved around very large files on your hard disk”. This point of view has some support in the tech community.

On the other hand there is also considerable support for the following point of view: “Disk fragmentation leads to system slowdowns, PC crashes, slow startups and shutdowns”.

So which point of view then is more likely to be accurate given that hard disk fragmentation makes the disk drive heads move more than necessary when reading files which can lead to reduced performance in file input and output?

Despite the fact that it is difficult, if not impossible, to measure an increase in system performance following Hard Drive defragmentation, there is a slight leaning in the tech community toward defragmentation being a positive maintenance process. I support this point of view.

Personally, I defrag with Auslogics Disk Defrag a free disk defragger from Auslogics Software regularly. The program is extremely easy to use, does not require any analysis phase and is faster than most disk defragmentation software I’ve tested in the past, and best of all, it’s free. In my view, it’s one more maintenance process that helps me get the maximum performance from my hardware.

Before you begin a defrag process it’s important to run a program such as CCleaner which will empty your Recycle Bin, Temporary Internet Files folder, and other locations where clutter tends to accumulate on your PC. Alternatively, you can let the application remove temporary files by adjusting program settings accordingly.

As well, you should consider uninstalling any applications you no longer use. Revo Uninstaller is a free utility that will uninstall unneeded applications more thoroughly than the Windows native uninstaller.

Quick facts:

Improve computer performance and stability

Increase your productivity - no more waiting for files to open

Defragment disks in minutes

Disk fragmentation map and detailed fragmentation report

Defragment USB/memory sticks

Two million downloads of this application from CNET, and an average user rating of 4.5 Stars speaks to the value of this small application.

System requirements: Vista/XP/2000/2003, 32-bit and 64-bit and dual-core CPU supported.

Download at: Download.com

A lot of my clients really don't know the difference between Hibernation and Sleep mode on a computer. In Vista there is a glitch that sort of deletes your hibernation option when you run Disk Cleanup. I have had the problem myself, so I did some searching to see if it was just me - I wasn't the only Angel around who had the issue. However, let's first explain the difference and similarities between the two.

Both Sleep and Hibernation modes provide you an easy opportunity to leave your computer in its existing state and then return to it later just as you left it, however you don't have the long boot up of restarting your machine from an actual shutdown. However the differences are these:

SLEEP - is also known as a STANDBY mode. Some of the critical pieces retain power while non-critical components are withheld power from the power supply. You can emerge from sleep mode almost immediately with either the wiggle of the mouse or a tap on the keyboard. The system does not fully power down.

HIBERNATE - The computer puts the state of your computer and items in memory as data on your hard drive, and then powers down the computer. You must hit the power button to emerge from Hibernation, and the state of your computer is reloaded from data on your computer. The advantages of this method are that it will emerge from the boot up faster than a regular boot up, it will resume where you left off, and no electricity is being used when the system hibernates. A disadvantage is that the data that is stored on your computer can become fragmented over time and slow your system, so running DEFRAG is important.

Now, because Vista seems to have some issues with the Hibernation on computers, especially if you have run disk cleanup, it is important to know how to FIX that little issue. Some versions of Vista don't support Hibernation, and sometimes it takes a tweak in the BIOS [Basic Input Output System - it runs when you first turn on your machine BEFORE Windows does its dance]. However, if Hibernation ran at some point and no longer does, then these are the steps to restore HIBERNATE on Vista [many thanks to Neil Patel and Worldstart for the directions].

Go to START and in the search bar, type "command"

When you see Command Prompt in the list of found items, right click it and select "Run As Administrator"

A command window opens, and it will show a path (which is no consequence in all this) type the following command "powercfg/hibernate on" then hit Enter

Once that is complete, restart your computer. Next time you click on the extended options to turn off your machine, you should see Hibernate listed in the options.

It's always terrible. Your computer starts slowing down, usually a few months after you do it, and you realize it's time. You need to defrag... This one gets the job done in pieces, even in the background, so it isn't so difficult.

Best:
Defrag specific areas!
Worst:
Well...

This shows what I mean when I talk about showing progress... and when I talk about it being similar to Windows Defragmenter.
</sub>

So, I'm looking for something to clear my bad memories of Piriform. Before I pull out my big guns, I'll cover Defraggler. It's a free defragmentation software that has a bit of a leg up on Windows Defragmenter.

First off, it does everything Windows Defragmenter does, but it does it in a much prettier interface. Also, it's portable, and you can set it to be low or high priority... I played Morrowind while running Defraggler. Now, I had to set the performance down quite a bit, but it ran... and all I have is a 1.2 GHz processor!

On top of that, you have the option to set it to defrag certain areas! Of course, you can still work on your entire drive, but I like the ability to scan just one folder at a time.

While you're scanning, it gives you a list of the fragments in terms of fragmented files before and currently fragmented files... along with a percentage. That's especially nice. When Windows Defragmenter says 50% done, it doesn't mean anything if I've got a million more files to go!

Bad? What do you want me to say? It's slow? It lacks features...? I didn't find anything, so I Googled it. I can't consider a few user-specific errors to be a problem, so I'll forget about this.

Overall, it's a good addition to my collection... and a name-clearing for Piriform!

Orijinal'in Sistem Bakım 3'lüsünde neler var. Sisteminizi uçuracak, tam performans alacağınız programlar var bunlar Revo Uninstaller, Auslogics Disk Defrag, CCleaner'dan oluşmakta. Revo Uninstaller ile programlarımızı hızlı ve doğru bir şekilde kaldırırken, Auslogics Disk Defrag ilede disk birleştirme yaparak HardDisk performansızını düzelticeğiz. CCleaner'lede bilgisyardaki geçici dosyaları temizleyerek bilgisayarı ağırlıklarda kurtaracağız. Tabi ki bu programlar diğerlerinden artı öynleri var, bu nedenle onları şeçtim yaptıkları tek şey bunlar değil daha bir çok özelliği var. Artık özelliklerine geçelim;

Not: settings seçeneğiniz seçerek "low" seçeneğini seçerseniz, sistem kaynaklarını az kullanır uzun sürer ancak program çalışırken bilgisayarınızda istediğiniz herşeyi zorlanmadan yapabilirsiniz.

Thanks for all the b-day wishes and gifts. i wish that i had been able to play more cp. but here's wat i did yersterday.

woke up sorta early went on cp and tried to find the band. couldnt.

got disgusted with grandmas computer bein so slow...so i started eliminatin programs, cookies and defragmenting it. it took foreva.

ate a yummy breakfast and then went to wings (a beach store) and walmart. bought beach chairs and junk for the beach. i got to ride the little moterized cart. it was sorta fun. we go up front to pay for our suff and i hear thunder! yikes. sure enough it was pourin down rain and a huge storm.

we decided to go to the beach and try and wait out the storm. at least the thunder and lightning...then we could swim or somethin. we stopped at mcdonalds for lunch and headed there. all it did was pour down rain and thunder and lightenin the whole time. i neva got outa the truck.

when we got bac grandma started complainin that i had messed up her computer and she couldnt play two of the games she likes. i couldnt get them to work and i couldnt figure out wat i might have deleted that she needed so i ended up doing a system restore and they still didnt work afterwards. i really dont think it was anything i did. i read some. still stormin. ate a big turkey dinner. it was yummy...of course then the sun started comin out. we decided to go out bowling.

we went to this ancient bowling alley and i actually managed to get bowling shoes on. i had to stand right on the line to throw my ball cuz i couldnt like walk up good. we bowled three games and the last one they started somethin called cosmic bowling. that was pretty cool. there were black lights, strob lights, alll kinds of lights zingin around...just awsome. suddenly i started bowlin decent. i got like 104 on that game. awful huh! but i was crippled.

it was late by the time we got bac so we went to bed.

Inoltre, aggiungo, e' piccolo in dimensioni, mangia poche risorse, lavora bene. Ottima alternativa a JKDefrag, tool anch'esso gratuito e, in piu' rispetto a Defraggler, anche standalone
