In Myrtle Beach, Hanna didn't pack much of a punch. Some jabs, perhaps, easily deflected.

We got plenty of rain, coming down in sheets at times, or sideways with the gusts, but never really stinging my face like I've felt in more significant storms past.

The wind swirled and stopped and swirled some more. We might've had peak in the 50's, but there was never a time where I had trouble standing.

The most impressive part of the Tropical Storm here on the Grand Strand was the angry surf, whitecaps curling and pounding the beach in rows, washing up and over my boots as I stood at the edge of the dunes for live shots.

Ike, on the other hand, looks like Hanna's criminal cousin, ready to commit felonies across the Florida Keys and beyond. He could be very dangerous and folks would be smart to avoid crossing his path.

So of course we're gonna head straight down there and stand in his way.

"Bones" ritrasformato in chiave tour.
Risultato? Pubblico in delirio.

Another e-mail sent to all of us at Fox covering the convention (and yes, this is the behind the scenes) -- these are rough notes from our producer at the event:

CLinton
Rough verbate of Clinton Avail after NY delegation breakfast

1154 this looks a little bigger than the ny press corp. I am delighted to talk to the ny press corp. I think ths is going to be a terrific four days where people are going to get really revved up. I know that we have a serious election. I am confident that we will win. That is what I have been working to make sure that we have a dem president and ia m happy with the positive response

1156 there is no doubt that this is obama convention. There is no doubt that we are trying to bring everyone together with the level of commitment to leave Denver unified. When you have convention, I have been to a bunch. You have a lot of opportunities for people to speak and carry the message of winning.

1157 well its been what I have been saying like when I addressed unions in Fresno yesterday. I asked them to work as hard for obama as they did to me. Election mccain would be a mistake for our country. Anyone who voted for me has more in common with obama than mccain.

1158 some people as you say are moving towards a full hearted commiment. This was a hard fought campaign, but I will be telling me delegates that I am for obama. T . . .there is absolutely npo doubt in my mind tat we will leave here united.

1159 we are doing what is traditionally done. We are following the traditions of the party convention. We will both be put into nomination which is a sign of respect. There will be a roll call vote, but then we will unite behind obama.

1200 I don’t know I am doing everything that I possibly can do. I do believe we have made a strong case. 18 mil vote for me 18 mil plus some for obama. . . .i think its impreartive that I keep doing what we are doing. As people understand the difference between mccain and obama. We will see a movement twds obama. Peole make up there minds for a variety of reasons.

1202 if you voyed for me, you have much more in common with obama than mccain

1203 I have been focused on going where obama’s campaign wants me to go . . .i know how complicated it is to run a campaign. So I am at their disposal.

1203 I am really pleased with the outcome of the process. I am an admirer of biden. I think he will bring a level of intensity to the campaign and will make a great vp and serve our country well

1204 never said that I want to (run for president again). Everything I care about, I believe so strongly that we have challenges and problems made worse by the bush sdmin. We can’t wait. We have to do it right this time.

1205 I have been involved in 10 presidential campaigns, dems have only one 3 of those. Everything we want to do depends on having obama in the whitehouse.

1205 you know gabe it was an extraordinary experience of criss crossing this country for 16 months. I worked as hard as I could. Of course its disappointing, but its not just about me. Of course I am moved by how much my campaign meant to them. It is a personal one. Professionally, publicly I am working as hard as I can to elect obama. I have been working on health care for 15 years, I don’t want to wait

1207 I get affect by the moment, but it is something that I relish. But what get bem up every days is that we make sure we have a dem president.

1208 we have a very good working relationship and it is through that we have worked out a number of issues, like the nomination process. There are certain facts that should be paid attention to. We have worked closely together. I have done more than people have historically done.

1209 are they outliers that people will say something. But if you really know something . . .look at the facts. We have worked together to make this convention successful

1209 I have said that I don’t approve that message. I don’ appreciate my words used. There si nothing that I can do about it other than to speak out against it.

1210 I donthin there is a lot tat is not understood. I will meet with my delegates on we. On that time, I will be releasing them and telling them that I will vote for obama. How they vote is a personal decision, that they represent people who voted for me. We could go back and have a long history lesion, but I don’t think that you will find two more cooperative campaigns. Of course, some people will have to make up their minds . . .i will let them know that whatever wa they, we will all support obama when we leave Denver. People need to feel good about their experience in Denver. It is a smoother convention. It is not like any of the fights in my experience

1212

Working on a story about cyber-terrorism, I learned some things the average computer user should kno

Working on a story about cyber-terrorism, I learned some things the average computer user should know. If you use wireless, you could be at risk.

Computer security experts like Richard Hollis at the private company Orthus say unsecured wireless among home and business users is a huge problem. That’s because while wireless works easily right out of the box, security is generally an add-on. And Hollis says most people don’t realize that wireless doesn’t respect physical boundaries. It can generally transmit 200 yards in any direction.

This should worry you. But not just because some yahoo could steal your personal information and wreak havoc on your credit. Hollis raised some new possibilities that were truly frightening for the home or business user.

[foxvideo 3035616]

Your computer can be used as hacking tool.

Hollis explains that people who do bad things generally don’t use their own computers to do their deeds. They break into your computer to then launch and attack on another system. So let’s say Bank XYZ is hacked into and millions of dollars is moved. Bank XYZ traces the hack back to your computer and you or your business is potentially liable.

Your computer is used as a bus locker.

Suku Nair, a computer security expert at Southern Methodist University raises an equally ugly possibility. Criminals hack through other computer systems, but they also need some place to store their stuff. Nair told me the story of a man who was in hot water with police for having kiddie porn on his computer. The man adamantly denied any wrongdoing. The police weren’t buying his story until they realized that someone had accessed this man’s computer and was using it, as Hollis so put it --- essentially as a bus locker.

There are simple things you can do to protect your wireless connection. Take off the default settings, put in a password and use encryption. There are great tips and advice and also a quiz at this federal website.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to quit your day job, (if only for a day) and be a rock

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to quit your day job, (if only for a day) and be a rock star? Well, that's exactly what Rock n' Roll Fantasy Camp is all about, and for those about to rock... we salute you!

Monday, our FOX News crew headed over to Ultra Sound Rehearsal Studios in New York City, where the Fantasy Camp landed for the day. In years past, the camp was several days long and only in one city.

Because it has become so successful, and wildly popular, camp organizers have turned it into a real rock style tour, in which the rock star counselors go from city to city to meet up with campers and make a band in just one day, then play a real venue that same night. In New York City, it was a big one too, a sold out show at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza, opening up for Kings X and Extreme. Talk about a crash course in Jamming 101.

[foxvideo 2958435]

The counselors include bassist Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple (pictured in top photo being interviewed about teaching his song "Smoke on the Water" to campers), drummer Chris Slade of AC/DC, Aerosmith and Ozzy Osbourne Hit song writer Mark Hudson, Mark Slaughter of Slaughter, Earl Slick of David Bowie and John Lennon fame, Kip Winger of Winger, Elliot Easton guitarist from The Cars, former Megadeth bass guitarist David Ellefson, and Gilby Clarke formerly of Guns N' Roses. Not bad!

We took our cameras and went room to room at the studios to see how this monster task of teaching campers how to play in a band would come together. Eye to eye contact, intent listening skills, and a general sense of how to put chords together were key. I was really impressed with how quickly everyone began to gel and get their groove on. If you are not a musician (like myself) the idea of strapping on a guitar, or sitting behind a drum kit and being able to weave together beats and thumps and make music is something I believe is a true gift.

Rock n' Roll Fantasy Camp starts early, call time 8am, which for rock n' rollers is pretty early. Kip Winger's room was our first jam session. He didn't want to take off his glasses, because he hadn't had his coffee yet.

What a lot of people don't know about Kip Winger, is that he also composes classical music. This varied musician had a pretty interesting way to teach his campers the songs they were about to learn... by bouncing a soccer ball in front of the drummer to help keep the beat.

Then it was off to see what David Ellefson was up to with his group. When we walked in, his group was in the middle of learning to jam out Black Sabbath's "Paranoid." I loved meeting all the campers and finding out what everyone did for their day jobs. In this group taught by Megadeth's former bassist, there was a bond strategist, a court clerk, and a 17-year-old student learning the riffs.

The next room we hit up, was that of Gilby Clarke's (pictured at right with the white t-shirt wearing guitar). That room had EIGHT musicians jamming, and two drummers going for it (one broke a stick), learning Cheap Tricks' song "Surrender". That was admittedly a lot of fun, our crew wanted to bust out a bic lighter to demand an encore after hearing that one.

Earl Slick was one cool cat, as he kept pointing our cameras to the band members when we came in. He wanted to make sure they were getting all the limelight, a very sweet gesture. Here's a fun piece of trivia: Slick (pictured in the black and white stripped shirt) worked with John Lennon on what ended up being Lennon's last all-new studio record, "Double Fantasy." After Lennon was killed that same year, he went into the studio with Lennon's widow Yoko Ono and was featured on what would be her biggest solo release "Season of Glass."

Now, I must admit, one of the best parts of the day for me, was when we went to shoot our "stand-up" portion of the report. I had something all mapped out in my mind to do in Mark Hudson's room, but as we came in, and the guys were playing "Born to be Wild", something else entirely different happened. Hudson is EXTREMELY colorful and energetic, and was so funny. He immediately took charge, and gave a new idea (hey, he's helped produce Aerosmith, Celine Dion, and Bon Jovi... who was I to argue), and had me do my stand-up during a part of the song with a tambourine... hysterical!

To the left is Glenn Hughes in the shades, taking a break with his band after teaching them his Deep Purple hit "Smoke on the Water." I got (almost) the entire thing on tape on my point and shoot camera, see below (true music fans only, will appreciate this one, it's nearly a 5-minute jam, but history making none the less).

Mark Slaughter of Slaughter, was so kind and patient with his group, we jumped in on him teaching his group some Led Zeppelin. Slaughter had the only kid group at the camp, and they sounded amazing.

Elliot Easton of The Cars was a terrific interview, and of course, a couple of people along the way had to be cut out of our report which was too bad. He told me that one of the reasons he likes doing the Rock n' Roll Fantasy Camp, is because it feels good to give back. Actually all the stars we talked to said the same thing, and added that they remember what it was like to be a kid with a dream, and a garage, and truly wanted the chance to fuel the fire for other budding musicians.

Then Easton killed me with a line as we were heading for the door. "Hey, we just came up with the name for our band ... 66-8, the neighbor of the beast" (Iron Maiden fans insert laugh here)

And finally, we stopped by Chris Slade's room. The drummer of AC/DC. What fun it was to watch him instruct his group on how to perform one of his band's biggest hits, even jumping in and hitting the cymbals with his hands to help out. He was the perfect picture of a heavy metal conductor. In fact, I taped some of that too on my cam, and am posting it here. Listen to the woman singer who definitely knows the trick of closing out a good rock song.

Special thanks to our entertainment producer Ashley Dvorkin, cameraman Rob Ginnane, and audio tech Ben. There was a lot of hustle going on around all these rooms to get everything on tape in one day.

I hope you enjoy the videos as much as the campers enjoyed playing them. (warning: do not watch these before you've had your morning coffee) In both these videos, it's only the first or second time they've run through the songs. I think there may be some future Rock Star counselors in the mix! Check out www.rocknrollfantasycamp.com for more info on the program.

On a superficial level, traveling with expensive, high-tech cameras, lights and polished network cor

On a superficial level, traveling with expensive, high-tech cameras, lights and polished network correspondents can make you feel pretty important. But a recent assignment in Durham, NC put my ego in it's place. (An occasional reality check is good for all of us).

As we usually do, we arrived at Duke Children's Hospital pushing our cart stocked with lights, microphones, cameras and other necessary broadcast equipment. Our crew was made up of a photographer, audio technician, Atlanta Bureau Correspondent Jonathan Serrie and myself, the all-important producer. Quite an impressive sight walking through the door on most occasions. But when entering a children's hospital where medical miracles are performed, I had to check my ego at the door.

We were at Duke to cover an experimental procedure that might be able to help three year old Zoey Komninos. Zoey was born with cerebral palsy. She can't walk or talk and her parents feed her several times a day through a feeding tube. Melanie and Jim Komninos saved the blood from Zoey's umbilical cord when she was born. For the past three years, the family has been paying a private laboratory to keep the frozen blood in safe storage.

Dr. Joanne Kurtzberg has been working with cord blood since 1993 and hopes the stem cells in Zoey's cord blood might help her condition by reversing some of the damage to her brain cells. That day, Dr. Kurtzberg was infusing the cord blood into Zoey's body and we were there to cover the procedure.

It wasn't long into our shoot that I realized the buzz of activity going on around us. It's activity that happens every day, without fail, even after the network TV crew is gone. The third floor of Duke Children's Hospital at Duke University Medical Center is ground zero for many kids in the fight of their young lives against cancer, leukemia and other deadly diseases. We were in the outpatient area, the place where many of these kids come to get life-saving medicine, chemotherapy and medical support from the doctors and nurses who work this floor every day. The room was filled with small children, some in diapers. Even a teenage boy who probably would rather be in gym class this day. They were sitting in recliners or lying on beds, many of them hooked to IVs and machines monitoring their vital signs. I was most impressed with the staff on the floor. Doctors, nurses, counselors, even a guitar wielding man with a goatee, who was there to entertain and possibly bring a smile to those little faces. They all played a vital role in making sure that these kids had the best care the medical community could offer.

I am always in awe of those who work in medicine. I can only imagine how many years they spent in school to learn the intricate workings of the human body and all the medicines and procedures they have to study on a regular basis just to do their jobs. But what amazes me the most is the personal side of practicing medicine. In the face of very sick kids, frustrated and worried parents and a demanding medical system that never shuts down, these doctors and nurses focus on being human first. I saw it in Dr. Kurtzberg who wore a simple t-shirt with a dog on it and used princess stickers to make the medical equipment less scary to already frightened kids. I saw it in Kristin, one of the nurses who wore bright red scrubs and a warm smile while helping little Zoey and other kids through their procedures. And I saw it in Wendy, another nurse who took time out from her rounds to give me a Sesame Street bandage to cover a cut on my index finger.

On Sunday night at 7 PM (Eastern) and throughout Monday morning, check out the story that Jonathan Serrie and I put together about little Zoey Komninos and her experimental cord blood infusion. Her parents know the procedure may not even help Zoey at all. Dr. Kurtzberg was very clear to make sure that all our viewers understood that this is not a miracle cure, just an experimental procedure that might improve some of her symptoms. Despite what happens with Zoey, her parents are happy to have a beautiful and loving little girl.

We all have important jobs. Even my job makes a difference in people's lives every now and then. But I have to hand it to the folks who work at Duke Children's Hospital. If it weren't for their knowledge, hard work and personal touch, kids like Zoey and that teenage boy who would have rather been in gym class might lose the fight against horrible diseases no one should have to suffer, at any age.

Islamabad, Pakistan - Not getting the welcome home he wanted, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousef Gilani

Islamabad, Pakistan - Not getting the welcome home he wanted, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousef Gilani returned to Islamabad today after three days of high-level meetings in the U.S. as a battle raged in the northwestern Swat valley. While he was gone, violence has kicked-up in Swat where a pro-Taliban militant group has been steadily increasing its influence and power despite a peace deal with the government back in May. Pakistan’s military has been battling with the militants for two days after Taliban fighters abducted 25 policemen. Nearly 60 people have been killed, including 13 civilians. This is just such a situation Prime Minster Gilani says his government will handle in its own way while on his state visit to the U.S.

There’s American concern that the Pakistan government’s choice to talk with tribal elders to use their influence with militants is not working. In fact, top U.S. military officials believe talks have given Taliban militants more room to grow and allows safe havens for Al Qaeda leaders hiding out in the remote region to remain. When asked by Fox News about this concern, Major General Athar Abbas, the Pakistani Army Spokesman, said "There are no quick fixes to this problem, we have to go for solutions which are homegrown." Meaning, the situation is in Pakistan and has to be dealt with in a Pakistani way.

In the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), militants are continuing to cross over into Afghanistan to attack U.S.-led coalition forces and their Afghan counterparts. Afghan and NATO officials say the attacks are up 40% this year. And recently the top Taliban leader in Pakistan Beitullah Mesud started pulling militant groups together creating a Taliban umbrella organization. But some groups are holding out and not joining. They are steadfast in staying on their own such as one group who has created parallel systems because they say the government is not providing the Islamic way of life they want.

One such group is Lashkar-e-Islam, the local Taliban that controls the Khyber Tribal agency. Their number two in charge, Haji Mesri Khan, gave Fox News a rare one-on-one interview this week in FATA. Khan said "Ever since assistant secretary of State Richard Boucher visited (Pakistan) and they (Pakistani Government) started to take money from the U.S. and attacked us, things have gone bad between us and the government." The big picture impact of what could happen if the militants continue to train, arm and grow is dire. It’s thought that the next major terrorist attack on the West could be planned in FATA.

Slightly over one month after Red Cliff was first previewed at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention, The first official web entry is up! It's just a modest 4 frame comic at the moment, but more is in the works.

To mark the occasion, here's the very first Red Cliff art trade I made (at STCC!): featuring Zhou Yu, and Zhuge Liang, of course J. Drawing on the spot really isn't my forte- I get major deer- in-headlights syndrome. I'm rather pleased with the overall results this time round though (although the proportions could still use more work..eheh)

Joichi very obligingly responded with a lovely piece of her own pair of rivals from her original story, Warlock's Emblem.

One of the best things that came out of STCC for me, was getting to touch base with other artists like Joichi, Gilamon etc. etc. To see such outstanding work so close to home is at the same time humbling and exciting- if this is an indication of things to come, future events are going to be something to watch out for!
